Using a line out of context is not proof of anything dude.

2018-11-03 17:21:55 UTC

Then watch the video. I don't want to continue this conversation with you, I see little to no value in it.

2018-11-03 17:22:28 UTC

Also no one is perfect. Tim did not mean exactly what he said. As referenced by the words later in the video.

2018-11-03 17:22:37 UTC

Tim pool was saying the meritocracy should be the basis of a system, but it should not be the only factor

2018-11-03 17:22:47 UTC

Maybe he should write scripts then

2018-11-03 17:22:54 UTC

Yes, far better explanation.

2018-11-03 17:22:59 UTC

He can be a bit rough when he's off the cuff.

2018-11-03 17:23:26 UTC

While a persons achievements should hold the most weight, other factors should be taken into account as well

2018-11-03 17:23:30 UTC

That's what he meant by it

2018-11-03 17:23:52 UTC

So, you would say Tim does in fact support meritocracy, but believes that wealth should be taken from those who earn a lot to benefit those who earn little.

2018-11-03 17:23:55 UTC

@Yugure Is my god!

2018-11-03 17:23:57 UTC

As soon as you start taking other factors into account, its not merit based anymore

2018-11-03 17:23:58 UTC

@Walsp because energia buran is state sponsored system and each kg has a cost duuh

2018-11-03 17:24:13 UTC

also objectively better system than shuttle program

2018-11-03 17:24:44 UTC

Tim explained exactly what he meant by this with an example.

2018-11-03 17:24:44 UTC

Not wealth

2018-11-03 17:25:02 UTC

I would guess much more like a personal statement to a college when it comes to a hiring process

2018-11-03 17:25:16 UTC

"here were my struggles in life" type of thing

2018-11-03 17:25:34 UTC

So, like the current bias practices, but with class instead of race?

2018-11-03 17:25:49 UTC

Again, no.

2018-11-03 17:25:50 UTC

Something akin to that, I would assume

2018-11-03 17:25:57 UTC

not exactly

2018-11-03 17:26:23 UTC

Like i said above, the instant you factor in other factors, its not merit based anymore. It can't be.

2018-11-03 17:26:24 UTC

Modern day runs on the assumption all people of a certain race face the same struggles

2018-11-03 17:26:37 UTC

Whether its class, or race, or social status, or disability

2018-11-03 17:26:41 UTC

I.E. affirmative action and diversity

2018-11-03 17:26:48 UTC

Right. So, he'd prefer to judge people's economic situations regardless of race.

2018-11-03 17:27:12 UTC

Under a meritocratic system such as the one I described, people can explain their own sturggles and no employer is forced to take them into account

2018-11-03 17:27:24 UTC

So, if I'm understanding this right, a poor person who went to some random high school is held to a lower standard when applying to a position than a rich person who went to a fancy prep school.

2018-11-03 17:27:26 UTC

However, they have the possibility of doing so

2018-11-03 17:27:32 UTC

You can't cleanly separate biological and environmental factors when assigning merit.

2018-11-03 17:27:40 UTC

Book, your not understanding this right

2018-11-03 17:27:53 UTC

Even that kid in prep school can face a struggle in life

2018-11-03 17:28:37 UTC

Okay. So, the more you struggle in life, the lower the standard or the more aid they receive from the government/college/fill in the authority.

2018-11-03 17:28:38 UTC

People that have faced (and overcome) real struggles generally don't want or like handouts

2018-11-03 17:28:50 UTC

THIS

2018-11-03 17:29:05 UTC

they earn themselevs

2018-11-03 17:29:11 UTC

Take me for example, I come from a rather well off family to the point I can pay all 4 years tuition and come out debt free. But when I'm asked about a struggle I had in life I typically write about my own bout with depression and my fight against it without medication and how that affected my life academically and personally

2018-11-03 17:29:21 UTC

Tbh yugure might not even support the system

2018-11-03 17:29:26 UTC

Dont attack him for it

2018-11-03 17:29:31 UTC

I'm not.
