for the record, you can deviate from source material and still make a decent movie version.
Changed it, literally meaning the same thing
Ashkenazi jews left the Levant with the burning of the Temple and integrated into Germany and Northern Italy
not religion?
@Grenade123 it depends heavily on how that deviation is done. This was discussed earlier. You're adapting to a specific medium, some concessions may have to be made
No, in the same way being an Armenian isn't a religion, but nearly every Armenian is an Apostolic Christian.
but those concessions arent "Let's make the white guy black for diversity points". This is usually the sign that the guy at the wheel is drunk
@Beemann Let me try it differently then. If I watch a bunch of action movies and don't like them. I'm going to recognise the pattern and stop watching them. But I don't stop watching them because the mostly white male leads are put there, but because the movie is stupid or something.
Or how nearly all of my Aramaean ethnic relatives in the Levant are Maronites, but their ethnicity isn't direct to their religion.
well, afaik
jews are very very racially conscious, and then pretend its only religion when they get called out on it.
Let me conuter that in the same way. If every movie that pushes the diversity narrative in advertising, or highlights a racially swapped character ends up being a low quality shitshow, why would you watch more of them?
@Beemann obviously. You need to know the source material well enough to deviate without missing the point.
It's not a change they just happened to make, m8
it's a deliberate decision they put focus on
You can argue they are racially conscious because they have historically consistently been a social outgroup, such cases breed racial consciousness.
@Dvir what do you think about israel?
is it a country for jews? or would it not be a problem if 80% of the population there (and representation in power) would be nonjewish?
Well, with "The Dark Tower" specifically, it was a significant plot point that there was racial tension between the character Idris Elba replaced, and a black woman from the 1970s. If they make the character black that racial tension can't exist.
*they* are the ones who determine the focus and advertising campaign, all I'm doing is taking their word for it. The difference is the message I get from it
@Dvir why do you think jews have consistently been a social outgroup?
I didn't watch the series so I don't know what they did with it.
I mean I bet they didnt, I'm just saying it would be an option for keeping the racial tension. Would come across v. differently though I imagine
By being a distinct religious diaspora minority within Christendom for millenia.
Easy target for discrimination
@Dvir well, why do they keep living in christian nations, and then not adapt to the culture?
They do
i think jews bring it on to themselves
oy vey
They can retain their judaic religion and still adapt to the greater social culture
they subvert their host culture
Those damned ~~Kulaks~~ Jews, why cant they just fit in? They brought it on themselves
most jews in the west are for mass migration
I'm gonna need a source on that my dude
except when it comes to israel
the local populace is like... well... thats a bit odd
and then they kick out the jews out of their nation
and then the jews are like "oy vey, its like another shoah"
"ah this antisemitism"
it probably depends on the jew @Aghost
"why oh why"
