it makes you look like an out of touch turd, which movie execs tend to be it seems

2018-11-28 14:35:39 UTC

ah, the elusive demi-jew...

2018-11-28 14:35:54 UTC

Er... are you either loyal to your nation or your religion?

2018-11-28 14:36:04 UTC

only surpassed in rarity by the deep-water jew

2018-11-28 14:36:05 UTC

Those don't have to be exclusive to each other

2018-11-28 14:36:12 UTC

lol imagine if a well known white actor played a Black Muslim today

@Dvir
well, jews are both an ethnicity/race and a religion
which one is it

2018-11-28 14:36:49 UTC

Imagine if Idris Elba played a character who, in the book, was called a cracker
Oh wait that happened

2018-11-28 14:37:11 UTC

Ashkenazi jews are of German and Semitic ethnicity.

2018-11-28 14:37:29 UTC

@Beemann who was also described as having blue eyes...

2018-11-28 14:37:30 UTC

ancestry? what does ancestry have to do with religion?

2018-11-28 14:37:54 UTC

@Atkins evidently the blueprint for woke Ciri

2018-11-28 14:37:55 UTC

for the record, you can deviate from source material and still make a decent movie version.

2018-11-28 14:37:58 UTC

Changed it, literally meaning the same thing

2018-11-28 14:38:26 UTC

@Dvir so "jew" is a racial category?

2018-11-28 14:38:28 UTC

Ashkenazi jews left the Levant with the burning of the Temple and integrated into Germany and Northern Italy

2018-11-28 14:38:29 UTC

not religion?

2018-11-28 14:38:50 UTC

@Grenade123 it depends heavily on how that deviation is done. This was discussed earlier. You're adapting to a specific medium, some concessions may have to be made

2018-11-28 14:39:07 UTC

No, in the same way being an Armenian isn't a religion, but nearly every Armenian is an Apostolic Christian.

2018-11-28 14:39:49 UTC

but those concessions arent "Let's make the white guy black for diversity points". This is usually the sign that the guy at the wheel is drunk

2018-11-28 14:40:01 UTC

@Beemann Let me try it differently then. If I watch a bunch of action movies and don't like them. I'm going to recognise the pattern and stop watching them. But I don't stop watching them because the mostly white male leads are put there, but because the movie is stupid or something.

2018-11-28 14:40:18 UTC

Or how nearly all of my Aramaean ethnic relatives in the Levant are Maronites, but their ethnicity isn't direct to their religion.

2018-11-28 14:40:22 UTC

well, afaik
jews are very very racially conscious, and then pretend its only religion when they get called out on it.

2018-11-28 14:40:48 UTC

Let me conuter that in the same way. If every movie that pushes the diversity narrative in advertising, or highlights a racially swapped character ends up being a low quality shitshow, why would you watch more of them?

2018-11-28 14:40:49 UTC

@Beemann obviously. You need to know the source material well enough to deviate without missing the point.

2018-11-28 14:40:58 UTC

It's not a change they just happened to make, m8

2018-11-28 14:41:06 UTC

it's a deliberate decision they put focus on

2018-11-28 14:41:14 UTC

You can argue they are racially conscious because they have historically consistently been a social outgroup, such cases breed racial consciousness.

2018-11-28 14:41:29 UTC

@Dvir what do you think about israel?
is it a country for jews? or would it not be a problem if 80% of the population there (and representation in power) would be nonjewish?

2018-11-28 14:41:41 UTC

Well, with "The Dark Tower" specifically, it was a significant plot point that there was racial tension between the character Idris Elba replaced, and a black woman from the 1970s. If they make the character black that racial tension can't exist.

2018-11-28 14:41:44 UTC

*they* are the ones who determine the focus and advertising campaign, all I'm doing is taking their word for it. The difference is the message I get from it

2018-11-28 14:42:01 UTC

@Atkins what if they made the other character huwhite? :^)

2018-11-28 14:42:27 UTC

@Dvir why do you think jews have consistently been a social outgroup?

2018-11-28 14:42:35 UTC

I didn't watch the series so I don't know what they did with it.

2018-11-28 14:42:59 UTC

I mean I bet they didnt, I'm just saying it would be an option for keeping the racial tension. Would come across v. differently though I imagine

2018-11-28 14:43:07 UTC

By being a distinct religious diaspora minority within Christendom for millenia.

2018-11-28 14:43:23 UTC

Easy target for discrimination

2018-11-28 14:43:27 UTC

@Dvir well, why do they keep living in christian nations, and then not adapt to the culture?

2018-11-28 14:43:36 UTC

They do

2018-11-28 14:43:39 UTC

i think jews bring it on to themselves
