Yeah no that's not on, speak to the university & citizens advice bureau

2018-11-15 16:38:21 UTC

@lolfire it's fairly common with the big companies that do letting to students.

2018-11-15 16:38:23 UTC

Seems like it would do something

2018-11-15 16:38:42 UTC

That would probably work

2018-11-15 16:39:06 UTC

It won't cut off if we go over but everything over all gets saved up and taken out of our deposit at the end of the year.

2018-11-15 16:39:12 UTC

which is fucking BULLSHIT

2018-11-15 16:39:25 UTC

Jeez

2018-11-15 16:39:39 UTC

Oof

2018-11-15 16:39:48 UTC

especially because the house is garbage, all the windows are single pane.

2018-11-15 16:39:57 UTC

Wait. no that's actually not on, they can't touch your deposit for anything aside from physical damage to the property, isn't that why the gov brought in the tds?

2018-11-15 16:40:02 UTC

This is why I hate renting. It's not your property and you can't make it your own

2018-11-15 16:40:38 UTC

Depends on the landlord tbh

2018-11-15 16:41:03 UTC

nope, the deposit, once withdrawn from the protection scheme, can be claimed partially or fully by the lettor to cover any costs incurred by them relating to the property as long as it abides by the terms of the contract.

2018-11-15 16:41:24 UTC

as they've stated what they can take money from the deposit for in the contract, they can do so.

2018-11-15 16:41:28 UTC

As a landlord I can say I will not touch your deposit unless you break contract agreement or if you leave a shit in my fucking kitchen sink

2018-11-15 16:41:53 UTC

Not every landlord is nice

2018-11-15 16:42:04 UTC

these are big letting companies catering directly to students, they prey on the fact that we won't know any better.

2018-11-15 16:42:04 UTC

And it appears Coats is a cunt.

2018-11-15 16:42:06 UTC

Most around my area are shite

2018-11-15 16:42:32 UTC

"or if you leave shit in my sink" makes me think of dirty dishes

2018-11-15 16:42:33 UTC

plus competition is a bitch, they push you to sign or they'll sign with someone else

2018-11-15 16:43:29 UTC

I basically just wear a fluffy jumper and uggs at every available moment

2018-11-15 16:43:29 UTC

Surely there should be some law to protect students and first time buyers

2018-11-15 16:43:33 UTC

nope.

2018-11-15 16:43:42 UTC

Rip

2018-11-15 16:43:44 UTC

Nope

2018-11-15 16:44:23 UTC

I'm renting out to some students right now other than making the house smell like pot they are wonderful renters

2018-11-15 16:44:32 UTC

the only protection is knowing, because knowing is half the battle

2018-11-15 16:45:14 UTC

don't forget they have to make money too, big lettors like this do it by taking advantage because they don't communicate with us on an individual basis.

2018-11-15 16:45:34 UTC

and rely on students not knowing what's up.

2018-11-15 16:45:46 UTC

hi

2018-11-15 16:45:52 UTC

I've heard in some areas there's one or two land lords who price fix and shit

2018-11-15 16:46:03 UTC

When I first read the contract I asked the guys if we could find another place but they were suuuper against it.

2018-11-15 16:46:42 UTC

It is hard to find affordable student housing that isn't an absolute wreck

2018-11-15 16:46:46 UTC

😂 😹 😂 😹 😂 😹 😂

2018-11-15 16:47:04 UTC

and there's mould fucking everywhere.

2018-11-15 16:47:25 UTC

They didn't even treat it at the beginning of the tenancy, they just grouted/painted over it.

2018-11-15 16:47:36 UTC

so it's all coming back through

2018-11-15 16:47:42 UTC
