Does raising the minimum wage really effect the price of goods? I am getting mental gymnastics from leftists that support raising the minimum wage especially from people that chose to get part time jobs.

2019-12-28 22:22:47 UTC

Ffs. You just don’t want to say it because it will more than absorb the wage increase.

2019-12-28 22:23:15 UTC

No I've just made it clear I dont pay taxes

2019-12-28 22:23:22 UTC

@Louis XIV (aka 1685Violin) It probably will, but not to scale with the wage increase.

2019-12-28 22:23:47 UTC

@Asdrubal if it’s an illegal business you can just keep paying them under minimum wage then...

2019-12-28 22:24:01 UTC

I don't wanna hire illegals

2019-12-28 22:24:16 UTC

@Asdrubal you could hire teenagers

2019-12-28 22:24:26 UTC

Guess you can’t be the owner of your own business then.

2019-12-28 22:27:21 UTC

Yep, business owners want cheap labor and if they have high profit margins and are forced to raise the minimum wage, they'll just pass the costs to the customer while they cut hours and benefits. All the while lobby for more tax cuts so they could use the money to lobby for more laws to squash competition that do treat and pay workers fairly.

2019-12-28 22:28:12 UTC

@Louis XIV (aka 1685Violin) Big business =/= small business

2019-12-28 22:28:40 UTC

Small businesses dont get tax breaks

2019-12-28 22:28:43 UTC

Or tax cuts

2019-12-28 22:28:47 UTC

Is it no wonder why more millennials are supporting socialism, as in actual socialism?

2019-12-28 22:29:01 UTC

I know that about the small businesses.

2019-12-28 22:30:47 UTC

@Louis XIV (aka 1685Violin) Part of the cost will be passed onto the customer, but those who change their prices less will receive much more business, incentivizing them to cut costs in other places to meet price demand.

2019-12-28 22:31:59 UTC

@DrRisen Is that good? I doubt it.

2019-12-28 22:32:01 UTC

Or, just take a hit to profit margins to prevent an even worse one later on.

2019-12-28 22:34:08 UTC

@Louis XIV (aka 1685Violin) It certainly can be good. Competition forces innovation.

2019-12-28 22:34:33 UTC

What about losing jobs?

2019-12-28 22:35:54 UTC

Demand is staying the same. You cut jobs, you can’t fulfill that demand to its best extent. @Louis XIV (aka 1685Violin)

2019-12-28 22:36:24 UTC

In short, it wouldn’t be profitable.

2019-12-28 22:41:05 UTC

Minimum wage won't last long unless the rich get taxed too, because otherwise the gap will get even bigger.

2019-12-28 22:41:23 UTC

The problem also is housing price inflations.

2019-12-28 22:44:05 UTC

@DotNerd Housing Bubble Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

2019-12-28 22:46:03 UTC

I blame pensions and the credit boom

2019-12-28 22:46:56 UTC

I have no idea where this boogaloo thing comes from

2019-12-28 22:47:38 UTC

Idk how you can avoid pensions, but yeah some people get ridiculous pensions.

2019-12-28 23:05:31 UTC

>he doesnt know

2019-12-28 23:12:26 UTC

tbh if you can avoid pensions, that can solve a lot of issues.

2019-12-28 23:12:39 UTC

Likely old age social aid would be more fitting.

2019-12-28 23:13:58 UTC

Pensions are evil

2019-12-28 23:30:38 UTC

I agree

2019-12-29 20:36:50 UTC

@everyone do you believe a civil war will occur in the USA within the next 5~ years? If yes, what form might it take?
