I disagree
If things gradually rot over, they can win
It is critical that the shared stress of America be raised to an unbearable level that displaces our creature comforts like Netflix
@Mr1Gonzalez liberal vs cons?
when
The. Civil. War.
semen
How about we don’t have a civil war and just keep doin representative democracy
How about we have a civil war
And become a single party nation
So we don’t have to deal with the shitty slow democratic process
Because that’s the tyranny that caused America to exist in the first place?
If you do that you gon get some very unhappy people
Democratic republics can become the most tyrannical of any system
Everybody knows what is happening when a tyrant king abuses them, but a republic gives people the illusion of control.
a lot of people would rather not know that tyranny exists
This is true. But democratic republics, like you say, also can not be that
And it’s up to the people to make their government work better, to some degree
Seems like a way better deal than guaranteed tyranny
Of course, either system is what you make it
I mean, any democratic system has much more ability to become what the people want. Aka the absence of tyranny.
What I see as the breaking point is information technology combined with lobbying. The inundation of politicized news and "new civics" over the last 60 years has been able to influence to a huge extent "what the people want".
Absolutely! We need better rules about lobbying
We need better people in positions of power in the private sector
Well that’s a non sequitur but aight
it is not
I mean we were talking about lobbying, can we agree that there will always be people who act in bad faith from the position of private sectors?
not to the extent we have now, this is not normal
Which means we will always need protection from lobbying
Sure, it can be abnormal
We’re not disagreeing rn I think
only a little bit yeah
corruption is a problem that every society ever has tried to tackle
our way has its pros and cons like any other
But I think a valid strategy for dealing with lobbying is to approach it from the perspective of regulations against lobbying
Definitely
it just goes under teh table then
that is what corruption is in most of the world
Make there be watchdogs for that
But anyway, I’m confused what your solution is? How do you get better people in better positions?
