Can i claim my kids for taxes if im paying child support
I have joint custody

2018-12-18 01:53:34 UTC

In GA (which should help you, too) Alimony is tax deductble, but child support is not, which is why you see amicalbe divorced settled by the parties to "favor" alimony

2018-12-18 01:53:43 UTC

Since they receive it tax-free (custodial support)

2018-12-18 01:54:36 UTC

You need to qualify for it, though. Check the link

2018-12-18 03:27:16 UTC

GA is an at-fault state, so she is not entitled to Alimony if it was decided as Adultery, but was the verdict Adultery or Irreparable differences?

2018-12-19 14:39:14 UTC

So, about a month or 2 now my dad divorced my mom bc she was cheating on him

2018-12-19 14:39:24 UTC

Yesterday she came back because she said she wanted to apologize

2018-12-19 14:39:34 UTC

Instead, she screamed and hit my dad all night

2018-12-19 14:39:51 UTC

omg...

2018-12-19 14:39:55 UTC

so what happened?

2018-12-19 14:40:16 UTC

She came in “wanting” to apologize

2018-12-19 14:40:23 UTC

They had a bit of discussion

2018-12-19 14:40:36 UTC

She complained about how shitty her life was with him

2018-12-19 14:40:52 UTC

Then he told her “well I never had much chance to be with you”

2018-12-19 14:41:02 UTC

She then started being mad and hitting him

2018-12-19 14:41:17 UTC

what did he do?

2018-12-19 14:41:32 UTC

Back to her?

2018-12-19 14:41:33 UTC

nothing

2018-12-19 14:41:39 UTC

in general

2018-12-19 14:41:47 UTC

Oh

2018-12-19 14:41:59 UTC

Well

2018-12-19 14:42:07 UTC

He didn’t have much time to be with her

2018-12-19 14:42:10 UTC

Because of work

2018-12-19 14:42:17 UTC

And he had to educate me and my sister

2018-12-19 14:42:47 UTC

so he had to be the real parent, in other words

2018-12-19 14:43:00 UTC

did he at least get single parent benefits?

2018-12-19 14:43:05 UTC

no

2018-12-19 14:43:52 UTC

did he apply?

2018-12-19 14:45:16 UTC

nope

2018-12-19 14:53:33 UTC

so whatds going to happen now?

2018-12-19 15:11:09 UTC

I don’t know

2018-12-19 15:22:45 UTC

@Dan da Dad I'm gonna add that tax link to the list, I think

2018-12-19 15:27:27 UTC

@Dan da Dad that's applicable US wide, right?

2018-12-19 16:16:46 UTC

alimony laws can vary by state

2018-12-19 16:19:16 UTC

I'm curious as to why the link doesn't mention Georgia specifically though, in regards to tax deduction, that would be federal no?

2018-12-19 23:49:46 UTC

I believe so, @InsaneCaterpilla

2018-12-19 23:50:45 UTC

@dabezt I can understand about the eruption. Even as we neared divorce, my wife and I tried to talk about serious things. When things were surface, we were cool, calm and collected. When something serious emerged, try as we might, it would become an argument
