This is the rulebook for dnd for those who want to read up now before we get the channels open

Read only the chapters that seem important the chapters that go over abilities dice attacks that kind of thing

All the nitty-gritty stuff can be learned over time pretty easily

I thought we were doing like a modern setting but it cool

I want to later but I realized for this first campaign that we do I want to keep it simple

I don't want to make this huge fucking world with its own custom characters, towns, and rules just to find out its a complete shit show and impractical

You'll want at minimum a grid everyone can manipulate to some degree. Played a couple forum campaigns, and it doesn't go anywhere without the spatial component. Don't expect much of a cohesive campaign/party without it.

If you want a pure text/voice: something like Paranoia works a bit better for that format.
