so long as we don't start arguing that it's impossible to judge other currently existing cultures for their terrible ideas, I don't think we have much of a problem

yeha, basically my idea is that cultures should be held to the highest ideal of their time

but of course they would have to have relativley close proximity, Rome and China for instance, didn't have much contact, so we couldn't really judge them together.
