also, is anarcho-capitalism and libertarianism the same thing?

2018-05-06 00:53:11 UTC

No, anarcho capitalism argues that the state as an entity is fundamentally immoral as an agent of force

2018-05-06 00:54:30 UTC

Libertarianism is ethically ambiguous about the state, and is defined in the modern day as 'minarchist'

2018-05-06 05:41:18 UTC

I’d say classical liberalism, and Enlightenment ideas in general, can apply to both the left and right.

2018-05-06 05:43:14 UTC

In the 'ideal' Left/Right dichotomy, it is assumed that both sides are operating under the pretense that Enlightenment values are correct.

Classical liberalism seems more right wing now due to the loons on the left

2018-05-06 05:52:00 UTC

They're subversive socialists, trying to undermine western democracy, because they're butt hurt they won't be able to succeed within it. They'll implode after a while, hopefully, once people wake up to it.

2018-05-06 05:53:14 UTC

They’re doomed to not go very far. Americans are allergic to radicals. In Europe though, there could be problems.

2018-05-06 05:57:26 UTC

It'll spread back over. The mainstream left is slowly getting the idea that the words their politicians spout are contrary to the policies they put forward. They've got an 'okay' moral compass, albeit one that just aligns with every around them, but most people aren't going to be persuaded into radical leftism with the Internet being available.

Islam is the real threat to the west, imo.

2018-05-06 05:57:41 UTC

classical liberalism seems right wing because the window got shifted

2018-05-06 05:58:42 UTC

If the progressive, left-wing movement is illiberal, then liberals are conservatives.

2018-05-06 06:00:46 UTC

They are ready. Liberal isn't an antithetical definition to conservative

2018-05-06 06:01:44 UTC

Mhm

2018-05-06 06:02:09 UTC

Progressive is the opposite of conservative, and people will tell you they're both liberal. (But progs aren't, cause utilitarianism)

2018-05-06 06:04:01 UTC

There’s going to be a shift soon, and the pendulum will change directions to the right, just as it went left in the 60’s, as a result of the liberals becoming conservatives due to perspective

2018-05-06 06:06:11 UTC

Nah, that's not how it works anymore. Leftist philosophy is being destroyed before our eyes. We'll see a shift to politics more similar pre-WW2 dichotomies

2018-05-06 06:06:30 UTC

(In my opinion)

2018-05-06 06:10:34 UTC

Well, back in the 50’s and before, conservatism was deeply rooted everywhere, and being a lefty was counterculture and weird. Now, leftism is everywhere, and liberalism/conservatism is counterculture. But it is possible that the democrats/left go back to pre-WWII as they struggle to survive. Could even be a party flip flop, where the left tries to go back and the right moves forward. That’d be weird.

2018-05-06 06:10:53 UTC

Anyway, good talking to ya, but I need some sleep. Adieu

2018-05-06 06:11:02 UTC

@Deleted User Ancaps are a subset of libertarians. Not all libertarians are ancaps.

2018-05-06 17:29:29 UTC

@Deleted User is a commie
it's sort of expected that she'd conflate libertarians with ancaps

2018-05-06 17:34:04 UTC

@Deleted User I think any average person would. It's not exactly a mainstream concept

2018-05-06 17:34:23 UTC

that's because they're sheeple

2018-05-06 17:35:05 UTC

No, it's because not everyone is a politics nerd like we are lol

2018-05-06 17:36:21 UTC

lol

2018-05-06 17:36:57 UTC

He is actually right in this one

2018-05-06 17:37:24 UTC

For real, when you take a step back from all this, you feel like you arw taking small stuff way too seriously

2018-05-06 17:37:55 UTC

Take a month break of reading politics, and the world will seems perfect

2018-05-06 17:39:16 UTC

That's why I understand people who don't see "the cultural war" or "the Muslim problem"

2018-05-06 17:39:25 UTC

Even the problem with illegal migration

2018-05-06 17:39:36 UTC

It's like the Man Behind the Curtain from wizard of oz

2018-05-06 17:39:36 UTC

They are just uniformed about a subject

2018-05-06 17:39:50 UTC

And since their lives are going without problems, they don't care

2018-05-06 17:41:07 UTC

Which seems to be a bigger problem, if most people aren't taking into consideration externalities for their long term plans
