yup

2018-05-22 17:15:24 UTC

"White flight eventually becomes more likely in middle-class neighborhoods when the presence of Hispanics and Asians exceeds 25 percent and 21 percent, respectively," Uhh, Asians and Hispanics don't have a high crime rate like African Americans

2018-05-22 17:15:24 UTC

And it doesnt even necessarily have to be true, it is just the perception that people have of minorities and that is enough to make people want to move

2018-05-22 17:16:18 UTC

like i said above it probably has more to do with peoples perceptions

2018-05-22 17:17:57 UTC

And nothing's wrong with that. You can't stop people from moving out of places if they wish to move out.

2018-05-22 17:18:06 UTC

yup

2018-05-22 17:19:35 UTC

yes, but this sort of behavior interferes with discrimination laws. I actually spoke about this with someone

2018-05-22 17:20:03 UTC

lol idk

2018-05-22 17:20:41 UTC

he says he doesn't get along with blacks and wants to move, that's cool, but he also says that if a black moves into his neighborhood than they can be denied certain things

2018-05-22 17:20:47 UTC

"One of my neighbors' house smells of weed all the time, the other hasn't maintained his lawn in 3 years, the other has 12+ people living in his house. I guess I'll move out."

2018-05-22 17:21:14 UTC

his exact words were that black people are jealous of his skin colour

2018-05-22 17:21:24 UTC

so?

2018-05-22 17:21:41 UTC

maybe they are

2018-05-22 17:21:51 UTC

I doubt it.

2018-05-22 17:22:13 UTC

there is dark skinned light skinned thing in the black community

2018-05-22 17:23:20 UTC

anyway, besides the race thing, I think there are class reasons for it too

2018-05-22 17:24:11 UTC

lets say government assistance gets lower class people into a middle class neighborhood

2018-05-22 17:24:40 UTC

now there is another level of difference there, which might be a greater contributor

2018-05-22 17:25:06 UTC

because lower class people I think tend to bring in crime

2018-05-22 17:25:22 UTC

Are poor people entitled to have rich neighbors? Or to local businesses?

2018-05-22 17:25:27 UTC

no

2018-05-22 17:26:47 UTC

@DanielKO She's 23.

2018-05-22 17:27:00 UTC

If I'm raising a family, I'd prefer to live near other families of similarly aged kids, similar income bracket and education level.

2018-05-22 17:27:35 UTC

think about it, if a bunch of redneck hillbillys moved into your neighborhood and didnt mow their yard and left junk cars in their driveway, you would want to move out
And no one wants to live there, so property values go down

2018-05-22 17:27:52 UTC

@meratrix better late than never.

live where you want, I'm just saying that when "White Flight" was a thing minorities would get discriminated against. "In the United States, Redlining is the systematic denial of various services to residents of specific, often racially associated, neighborhoods or communities, either directly or through the selective raising of prices. While the best known examples of redlining have involved denial of financial services such as banking or insurance,[2] other services such as health care[3] or even supermarkets[4] have been denied to residents."

2018-05-22 17:30:17 UTC

@Deleted User And If white people move in, its called gentryfication
So no matter what whites do, they get blamed

2018-05-22 17:30:55 UTC

unfortunately

2018-05-22 17:32:10 UTC

"Gentrification is a process of renovation of deteriorated urban neighborhoods by means of the influx of more affluent residents."

2018-05-22 17:32:18 UTC

I actually dont see how its a bad thing...

2018-05-22 17:32:48 UTC

Blacks are poor

2018-05-22 17:32:54 UTC

Cant afford rent

2018-05-22 17:32:59 UTC

Have to leave

2018-05-22 17:33:46 UTC

then move, the neighborhood shouldn't stay shitty

2018-05-22 17:33:54 UTC

Ask San Francisco, locals have been demanding tech companies engineers to move out.

2018-05-22 17:34:16 UTC

Because poor people can't afford to live there anymore.

@Deleted User There is a reason we Love you

2018-05-22 17:37:43 UTC

My take on this is: if white people moving out turns your neighborhood to shit, maybe the whiteys were the ones keeping it nice. They don't owe a nice neighborhood to anyone. That said, government shouldn't deny services, and I believe that's illegal.

Again we turn to Empire of Dust

at some point you have to separate market forces from perceived racism. people try to do what is in their best interest, and if enough people do that trends will emerge, and then you can look at those trends later and come up with all sorts of ideas as to what the motivation behind it was. but at the end of the day, it's just people trying to improve their lives.
