To be fair
Still means deporting most of them
You can seek asylum if you are being the subject of political persecution
Fuck those shitworlders
Yes, they should stay and fix their own country. It's better for everyone in the long term.
the biggest issue I see is that after we catch them we have to back up the courts with thousands of cases to then deport them
when it should be automatic
holy shit
ONE based Democrat in the comment thread
```I read comments like those in this thread and I don’t know how to grapple with my party - I’m a registered Dem in CO.
Seeking asylum is not a crime, and neither is denying it. The left approaches immigration the same way the right approaches climate change - there is no conversation around the very real adverse trade offs of population surges of unskilled, high birthrate people.
Whatever the solution to the problem of illegal immigration (and it is a problem), we have to agree on a reality and then work to solve it to the best we can. We cannot make policy on pictures and anecdotes. Statistics must win the day.
Asylum for all is not a solution. If my party can’t discuss both sides of the immigration debate cogently, and show we’re serious about solving it (not blanket asylum and a general open borders policy) then I fear we will loose again when it comes time to vote.```
well fuck
He gets points for self-awareness
They are obviously a minority. No pun intended. <:pepe_smug:378719408341909506>
I don't spend much time on reddit anymore, and this thread highlights why
Even sensible comments will only be read by a fraction of people
probably will change even less minds
and before the next few minutes pass it will probably be swamped over by the next 20 topics being posted
What'll probably happen is the Dems with self-awareness will continue to shrink in number and the hysterical left will increase in number until they lose power completely
I just stick to my gaming and anime sub reddits and every once in awhile spend time on Tumblrinaction
Then once the right has near total institutional power, they will devolve into stagnancy as they did in the 1990s, and the Left will get its shit together again.
maybe during the stagnancy new parties could crop up
I know its an impossibility but hey
Anyone familiar with the concept of Evaporative Cooling
I think we're seeing that in the Dem party
nah, I don't new parties are going to spring up
unless, somehow an alternative voting system was implementated across the nation, on a statewide level
like what?
what they're implementing in maine right now
FPTP does not encourage multiple parties
*sigh*
```A few years back, I was on a transhumanist mailing list where a small group espousing "social democratic transhumanism" vitriolically insulted every libertarian on the list. Most libertarians left the mailing list, most of the others gave up on posting. As a result, the remaining group shifted substantially to the left. ```
Funny how that seems to work.
```Evaporative cooling sets up a potential energy barrier around a collection of hot atoms. Thermal energy is essentially statistical in nature—not all atoms are moving at the exact same speed. The kinetic energy of any given atom varies as the atoms collide with each other. If you set up a potential energy barrier that's just a little higher than the average thermal energy, the workings of chance will give an occasional atom a kinetic energy high enough to escape the trap. When an unusually fast atom escapes, it takes with an unusually large amount of kinetic energy, and the average energy decreases. The group becomes substantially cooler than the potential energy barrier around it.```
When a group insults all but a small inner circle and alienates everyone else, the remains are always left wing
The argument is when X group with Y beliefs continue to have their believes proven to be incorrect, it's the *moderates* who fall away from the group
The ones whom are more outspoken and open advocates for those beliefs wind up becoming *more* fanatical about them
And because the moderates have left the group, the group as a whole becomes even more extreme
@LordCaledus that's why you have to be "right wing"
otherwise lefties are going to come in and subvert
