disgusting
if they'd just shit in the toilet
they do
the Drain goes to the Ganges
there is no processing
This is why you don't let Countries leave the Empire <:pepe_smug:378719408341909506>
They believe, because it is holy, its waters cannot brijg them harm.
The same way Jesus wouldn't shoot you.
I don't think they generally *know* about all the shit pumped into the river though. Raw sewage, industrial chemicals... A giant soap factory dumps right into the river.
So chemicals, shit, and dead bodies. They drink and bathe in it, and bathe their babies in it too.
For blessings.
I wonder they have such a high rate of birth defects
Religion gives you the perfect excuse to discount reality, and behave like an imbecile. Being uneducated doesn't help.
Ganges is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. when western scientists take samples of it they use protective gear for a reason
Its more that the general population legitimately does not understand pollution, nor do they know what is put in the river.
They do not get much if any education.
They might not know there is a soap factors way upriver pouring vile shit like lye into the river.
And guess who encourages this ignorance?
but during these holiday times, it most certainly doesn't help that there's ridiculous superstition encouraging people to jump in and frolic in poison
More companies are looking to move there to do the same thing. They will realize the problem when it is too late.
it's an incredibly cheap way to get rid of your waste
and if nobody's stopping the companies, they'd be losing out if they didn't
They bless newborn infants in that water.
I'm sure there are some moral companies out there, that can compete without taking advantage of this cheap disposal method
Some believe they will die if they do not get periodic blessings
ridiculous
For them they HAVE to bathe in it, even ifits srtrsight acid
Hell the acid would just be seen as the holy reaction to impurity.
My point is, you cannot blame the incredibly ignorant for what they have no way of understanding.
I think you're letting them off the hook a bit easy - there's definitely issues with education, but most of them would not take a dump in the water they drink at home (regardless of whether or not this is from the ganges), because of certain knowledge that is relatively easily acquired
the access to clean water is the main issue, all the ridiculous religious stuff just adds to the incidents, as I'm sure there are pilgrims from all over who travel there for that
and I'm not exactly blaming them, the river shouldn't be polluted to begin with, there's a reason western countries don't just let companies dump all their waste into rivers or the ocean without treatment
the average, poor person in India has an excuse for their ignorance on this matter, the Indian government most certainly does not
Oh no the govt is probably promoting the ignorance
it's possible - they benefit from having lots of companies there with cheap waste disposal
Exactly.
