are boomer hedonists?
selling out future for a few vacations and early retirement?
@virtue ah ya, I'm somewhat familiar with that line of thinking. But then poor people realized that people who were getting ahead weren't actually good people. And that worldview died
and is that sexual hedonism?
which is more virtuous? to love doing good for it's own sake, or to hate doing good but to do it anyways?
sexual hedonism is some modern 19th century thing
Indulging in pleasure is basically thinking short-term in the traditional sense. Thinking of yhe future's pleasure is what an accomplished human should strive for
that's more or less the german philosophy
what if my forebrain is so highly developed that i derive maximal pleasure from creating future pleasure
doing work good for works (god's) sake
Yes. But not only yours, but your own's
@fuguer , probably depends on one's eschatological beliefs
well pleasure defines the shapes of everything..
First you, then your family, race, people, species
no one can give me a satisfactory answer
no, the shape of your plug defines your pleasure
Well, are you an atheist?
Only you can get an answer
thus i reject morality as having any sort of firm foundation
dont be a child, you choose your morality
?
yes
you wanna us to choose your dinner and next job?
@blanc
thats an argument about groups and social relationships..
It doesnt affect pleasure or anti-pleasure
yes
What's for dinner, @blanc?
Should I quit my job
Maybe
pleasure is not the objective
jeez
@blanc
The group is a pleasure... its a social pleasure
you want to belong with nice people
and you avoid bad people.
well thats a very wide perception of pleasure
One must move out of one's Mom's house before deciding if it's good or bad to quit one's job.
So I can study particle physics full time
so you are against people doing things they dont like??
Quit ur job
And truly understand the meaning of life
Plato would argue to love doing good for it's own sake is most just
^
I hate to say so but this is why I dislike applying philosophical beliefs upon the principle that they are reasonable
