Well, look at that, Vitality is a pseudo-philistine. Who knew.

I am growing a pomegranate tree not because I like growing things but so I can harvest the testosterone benefits from it, same reason why I am going to grow onions.

2019-08-20 07:40:39 UTC

Onions are shit tho 😩

Hobbies with no practical application are pointless. Painters that are bad at painting should find a new hobby begore they run out of time to get good at something that will serve them. Same with any other hobby, but music fits into tine gaps and can be brute-force learned in spurts and starts. Painting cannot effectively. Unless one is set on producing icons or something of spiritual service, painting becomes a wholly self-absorbing time sink without skill. A plain wooden bowl is of infinitely more worth than a mediocre painting, because at least it serves its function well.

That's very pro-gamer of you

2019-08-20 12:34:33 UTC

Well, I did mean within reason.

2019-08-20 12:38:58 UTC

I think SMV includes the creation of something beautiful as useufl

2019-08-20 16:38:00 UTC

^

2019-08-20 16:39:15 UTC

The caveat being if you are not capable of making something that is beautiful, and the intermediate product is not useful, you are making something of no value whatsoever

2019-08-20 16:42:14 UTC

the process of learning to do so is valuable to the person

2019-08-20 16:43:44 UTC

even basic fundamentals of composition, colour theory, proportions is extremely useful as there a thousand things which require design

2019-08-20 16:44:14 UTC

but also to actually appreciate good art you need to have some knowledge of it

2019-08-20 17:29:28 UTC

Knowledge should never be a fruitless pursuit. If you have nothing to show for an effort, it is wasted.

2019-08-20 17:34:20 UTC

its not wasted unless you think building up your character and learning to appreciate art is not something to show

2019-08-20 17:37:11 UTC

Appreciating good art does not necessitate creating bad art

2019-08-20 17:37:50 UTC

Postmodern art is entirely the result of bad artists understanding the elements of design too well for their own good

2019-08-20 17:44:44 UTC

>The caveat being if you are not capable of making something that is beautiful, and the intermediate product is not useful, you are making something of no value whatsoever

Your speech is neither beautiful nor useful.

Stop talking, boss.

2019-08-20 17:50:13 UTC

Git gud

2019-08-20 18:30:41 UTC

I have to ask what do you define as useful? Because I'd argue beauty is useful by itself insofar that it enriches the place we live in and enhances our moods.

2019-08-20 19:12:53 UTC

Beauty is useful when it is beautiful. If a "beautiful" object is not beautiful, it's a failure

2019-08-20 19:13:48 UTC

If you have the ability to make a beautiful object, that is a good thing. If you keep trying to create beautiful objects and failing, you're wasting resources

2019-08-20 19:17:58 UTC

There's a certain leeway for growth, if you're 18 and a mediocre artist with a steady curve of improvement, it's not wrong to keep practicing as the practice has the utility of driving you towards the ability to create beautiful things. If you're 30, however, and have been drawing the same shitty slop for a decade, the time to stop was a decade ago. People who lack talent should be able to recognize it and leave the art they admire to people able to do it justice, crude facsimile of beautiful art adds nothing to the world. It's just a masturabatory action of unwarranted self-glorification.

2019-08-20 19:21:10 UTC

shut up boomer

2019-08-20 19:27:31 UTC

"if youre 30 you shouldnt work out, as you will never be a star athlete"

2019-08-20 19:27:36 UTC

thats what you sound like

2019-08-20 19:41:49 UTC

Lol

"When the devil rests then so shall I"
~John Bosco paraphrased

2019-08-20 19:52:34 UTC

"and have been drawing the same etc etc"

2019-08-20 20:41:47 UTC

Working out is cumulative, art is not a cumulative skill unless you have an artist's brain already.

2019-08-20 20:43:16 UTC

Only a small subset of the population is capable of producing good art, and of those only a small subset are even interested in art. Those are the ones that should be creating art, not talentless mongs who need an "outlet," they can learn a cumulative skill like woodwork, or an instrument.

2019-08-20 20:58:36 UTC

You sound really bitter tbh

2019-08-20 22:08:16 UTC

Nah fam, just hate pretty much everything currently being produced by hacks in every creative medium

2019-08-20 22:08:35 UTC

Useless, ugly shit gets tiresome

2019-08-20 22:12:49 UTC

2019-08-20 22:14:35 UTC

2019-08-20 22:14:53 UTC

2019-08-20 22:15:00 UTC

2019-08-20 22:51:49 UTC

why should you not work out

2019-08-20 22:51:55 UTC
