You pretty much spend a whole week never leaving home. Stock up on food before hand

See Christmas is basically a party because it might be the last time you see parents/grandparents before the real cold sets in

And it was a historic time for them to die

China does it later in the year because they wouldn’t have to feed those people in a feast

That got grim pretty fast

they rather celebrate that the old people are halfway through the critical time

Yeah there's not much cultural stuff with Chinese New year, it's just a standard holiday to see family.

But they go all out

It's the time of year to impress your family

To show how much money you made

So buy the extra fancy food not because it tastes good but because it's expensive

So ironically I had some of the worse food ever during CNY last year because people will buy the most expensive stuff, so the people selling really cheap shit will put it in a nice box and sell it for loads

Again, I understand I'm explaining most products, but it's especially bad during CNY
