"The What We Know Project has recently moved to the Center for the Study of Inequality at Cornell University. We are an online research portal that marks a path-breaking convergence of scholarship, public policy and new media technology. Focusing on public policy debates around inequality"

Do you have studies made by computers?

2019-09-05 03:27:45 UTC

They had their conclusion before their 'metastudy'

2019-09-05 03:28:15 UTC

And since a metastudy is making a claim about what the research shows, not actual research...

2019-09-05 03:28:28 UTC

yeah all of those are summaries

2019-09-05 03:31:42 UTC

@JonPizza Well, the accuracy of a meta study is dependent on the accuracy of all the other studies cited. If each of the 73 studies cited are evaluated and show signs of being fundamentally flawed, then the conclusion of the meta study is completely bunk

2019-09-05 03:31:50 UTC

Are you looking at these summaries? First one 'survey via the Internet and on paper", second 'non randomized sample' third '22 participants'

2019-09-05 03:32:29 UTC

Based on Fondest's history of misinterpreting studies and general sleazyness, I doubt this meta study is actually accurate.

2019-09-05 03:33:07 UTC

'metastudies' aren't more than whatever the person doing it wants to say, they picked what went in after all

2019-09-05 03:33:32 UTC

It's as unscientific as you get because you start with the conclusion, not the question

2019-09-05 03:34:03 UTC

No. Not always. Meta studies can be useful to compile the results of studies.

2019-09-05 03:34:36 UTC

Nobody who understands what's going on claims that a meta study is deliberately a scientific study.

2019-09-05 03:34:52 UTC

Also my study doesn't matter. Actions are morally neutral and you need to give a reason why something is bad, so she had burden of proof for suicide rates which I instantly explained was miscited

2019-09-05 03:35:46 UTC

Oh please. shifting the goal posts

2019-09-05 03:35:49 UTC

>actions are morally neutral

2019-09-05 03:36:00 UTC

Thoughts on Hate crimes then?

2019-09-05 03:36:06 UTC

Yeah, I can't grok it

2019-09-05 03:36:41 UTC

Also, how often does 'was a transgender' get checked in the suicide report

2019-09-05 03:36:49 UTC

Can anyone really have this number?

2019-09-05 03:37:10 UTC

The citation you give is actually like 96 citations, of which I've already found a handful that dont support the claims made by the metastudy, but much of the info is paywalled

2019-09-05 03:37:25 UTC

The metastudy doesn't even give a wellbeing definition

2019-09-05 03:37:32 UTC

The burden of proof is on the people advocating irreversible surgeries

2019-09-05 03:42:14 UTC

okay, so listening to the segment in question, there's some more misleading language used here

2019-09-05 03:42:30 UTC

the conversation turned to transitioning *children* which your metastudy explicitly excludes

2019-09-05 03:42:47 UTC

the data on children is *very* different

2019-09-05 03:44:19 UTC

According to what he said on the call, the definition of 'well being' is answering yes when someone asks if you are okay.

2019-09-05 03:44:38 UTC

That he can't figure out why that is laughable is legitimately concerning.

2019-09-05 03:45:59 UTC

"you don't have to have gender dysphoria to be trans" - um yes you do.

2019-09-05 03:46:14 UTC

Otherwise, gender is just a fashion choice

2019-09-05 03:46:30 UTC

YUP

2019-09-05 03:46:36 UTC

it is a set of social norms

2019-09-05 03:47:16 UTC

tbh I think a lot of the gender debate is driven by an extremely autistic view of masculinity and femininity

2019-09-05 03:47:34 UTC

and I dont mean autistic for the meme

2019-09-05 03:47:46 UTC

example?

2019-09-05 03:49:08 UTC

I think people are associating, for instance, "camp" or tomboyish behaviour as being "another gender"
this is actually corroborated, at least in children, by research

2019-09-05 03:49:23 UTC

many children who "grow out" of dysphoria end up just being gay

2019-09-05 03:49:37 UTC

there's also a potential "social" aspect to symptoms of gender dysphoria

2019-09-05 03:50:06 UTC

with ROGD

2019-09-05 03:51:01 UTC

yes it is a good thing we do thing to harm them if they decide against transitioning
