And it can be treated, Sexual orientation isn't.
It is though. Why else would someone be gay?
There aren’t any cures for any mental conditions.
Currently
There are ways to mitigate it
For gays? Nope
Could I weigh in with some questions?
I don't trust people to accurately describe the difference between something physiologic and pathologic
@Chump_or_Champ sure
my bad. Got distracted at work. lol
Lol
Same
A few decades ago, wasn't homosexuality viewed as a mental disorder?
yes
If so, why? and why has that changed now?
Well
What is the difference between a mental disorder and a human trait
It seems like, at least with the trans and gender bending movement, political persuasion plays a significant role in our scientific and medical research and may have or is perverting our findings and how we proceed as a species.
With the body, you could argue women's cellulite is a disorder, but since about 80% of women get it, it could be described as a secondary sex characteristic
@SpanishAbbey good point. idk.
Again, it comes down to how you make the distinction
Evolution and purpose don't go together
So does homosexuality
Not for the person himself though, more to his sister
Mental things are also evolutionary traits. You can't separate the body and mind so easily
mind or brain? or both?
😛
Both
They follow the same evolutionary pressures as physical traits
I would make that assumption as well.
At what point do we decide something needs to cured?
Who makes that dee
Decision
I dont think homosexuality needs to be "cured" btw, just to make that clear lol
BTW: homosexuality in China wasn't viewed as something horrendous up until the 18th century
Or 19
I have more webbing between my fingers than most. At what point do I need to cure that
Or negative in general
So this highlights my concern (or maybe curiosity) about this issue.
Is how we categorize mental disorders, diseases, abnormalities, etc. socially determined and defined or scientifically?
