@Matthew yeah, because there's the drive controller and whatnot

2018-12-30 06:30:01 UTC

Is the data important?

2018-12-30 06:36:37 UTC

Nah, just my dad's Windows and WoW install

2018-12-30 06:46:09 UTC

Have you considered burning it out clean and laying a new connection line?

2018-12-30 06:48:59 UTC

I have not, wouldn't know how to.

2018-12-30 07:22:25 UTC

Clean out the wrecked part with a knife or maybe a pointy solder iron depending on how much of a savage you are

2018-12-30 07:23:52 UTC

Lay a new line with some silver cord or demanteled cable

2018-12-30 07:32:59 UTC

And fry your pc in progress

2018-12-30 07:33:09 UTC

Just scrap that drive

2018-12-30 08:00:12 UTC

Is it that risky? What about if I put it in a toaster?

2018-12-30 08:33:55 UTC

that the power side. just hard wire it

2018-12-30 14:21:58 UTC

What's all the hype with YeeLights?

2018-12-30 14:25:45 UTC

home automation

2018-12-30 14:25:56 UTC

with stuff like IFTTT and such

2018-12-30 14:26:35 UTC

also their price:performance ration is decent

2018-12-30 14:26:53 UTC

and as far as i know they dont need to call home like shitty stuff competitors have (aka LAN-control)

2018-12-30 14:27:10 UTC

(somebody correct me on that one if im wrong)

2018-12-30 14:30:18 UTC

eh

2018-12-30 14:30:24 UTC

you need to jump through a few hoops to get lan control

2018-12-30 14:31:00 UTC

You gotta be real stupid to fry your Pc with a data port tbh.

2018-12-30 14:31:39 UTC

@timsandtoms search for sata backplane

2018-12-30 14:31:56 UTC

for some reason they use that a lot

2018-12-30 14:48:07 UTC

Even with LAN control they phone home

2018-12-30 15:05:34 UTC

yeah that's why i said some hoops to jump through

2018-12-30 15:23:56 UTC

by what i mean the thing works even if you have the app firewalled

2018-12-30 15:24:11 UTC

but yeah i dont own those so i cant say for sure

2018-12-30 15:56:29 UTC

Yes that works.

2018-12-30 15:57:01 UTC

But for some reason, if you have it turn on with a schedule (made with the yeelight app), it may fail to turn on if firewalled

2018-12-30 15:57:12 UTC

So yeah you lose some functionality

2018-12-30 15:57:31 UTC

Though if you have LAN control, you can just do all that with a cron

2018-12-30 15:57:40 UTC

Just saying to get ready for it

2018-12-30 17:44:49 UTC

Thanks lads. I had a GE set of bulbs that would only work by phoning home. Servers went down many times and i wouldn't be able to turn the lights on. Many such cases.

2018-12-30 17:52:12 UTC

That sounds fucking awful

2018-12-30 17:52:38 UTC

My yeelights are coming on Friday, will report on if they suck

2018-12-30 19:36:44 UTC

you might be able to find cheaper

2018-12-30 19:37:31 UTC

unless you have a hot air station I doubt you will be able to remove the old one

2018-12-30 19:37:52 UTC

Wow, I'm surprised you were able to find that

2018-12-30 19:37:58 UTC

Chinkshit truly is magical

2018-12-30 19:45:33 UTC

those aren't the same

2018-12-30 19:45:38 UTC

his appears to have the 4 extra pins
