This nation has existed for 250 years. Its only been around 150 years or so when most people weren't direct immigrants

look at the demographic make up of america before 1965

That's a short amount of time as far as nations go

the hard seller act of 1965 radically changed the immigration laws and consequentially the make up of our country. whereas before the immigration from ireland and italy was quite different then the immigration from mexico today

they integrated far far easier and we took in amount that we could handle

after rampant ethnic friction with the Irish went away

yea and that happened a lot easier due to the amnt we took in being controlled

though that was a mix of ethnic and religious confrontation, with with protestant vs catholic and whatnot

now its like 2 million+ immigrants a year

I'm not saying "lets go open borders". We need immigration reform. I also believe immigrants need to assimilate much better. I'm simply pointing out that we're a country of immigrants white or otherwise. And that I support people's desire to better their lives. That's exactly what white people did coming to America. The only difference was we killed off the people already here

I think that really had less to do with government control of immigration and the fact all people had to travel were big fuckin boats and not many people could afford to all at once

you could say we were immigrants in say... the 1600s.. sure fine. whatever.

but today we are not a nation of immigrants

If you look at it in terms of the span of history. White people migrated to the Americas 200-300 years ago. There were none here before then. As far as history is concerned we're far more immigrants than mexicans are
