Not based on

2019-12-09 13:36:18 UTC

I criticized your use of "inherent"

2019-12-09 13:36:51 UTC

Nationalism may or may not lean towards collectivism, but that depends on how it is done by the people making up the ruling class

2019-12-09 13:37:41 UTC

Putting the interests of the nation will inevitably require that some individual "liberties" are trampled

2019-12-09 13:37:57 UTC

Most common example is building a wall

2019-12-09 13:37:59 UTC

No, that's only how humans have been doing it

2019-12-09 13:38:14 UTC

Nationalism as applied to any intelligent species doesn't have to be collectivist

2019-12-09 13:39:56 UTC

Can you give a hypothetical example of such form of Nationalism?

2019-12-09 13:41:32 UTC

I mean it's pretty obvious, you just let people choose their own hierarchies

2019-12-09 13:41:54 UTC

It's far too complex to work for human nations

2019-12-09 13:42:37 UTC

You're referring to a Voluntaryist commune, which will dissolve in just a few generations without order

2019-12-09 13:42:48 UTC

As I said, too complex

2019-12-09 13:42:55 UTC

The order exists though, after consenting to a hierarchy

2019-12-09 13:43:16 UTC

Their descendants might not consent to that hierarchy, then what?

2019-12-09 13:43:26 UTC

That's why it's complex and can't be done with human societies

2019-12-09 13:44:02 UTC

This could change if or when applied to different life forms

2019-12-09 13:44:36 UTC

This is similar to Hoppe's societies of voluntary communes which don't allow gays or blacks etc. It might happen that someone's child might not consent to it and it would break down the society

2019-12-09 13:44:39 UTC

Either way, my argument is that if you say that nationalism leans towards collectivism, I will agree.

2019-12-09 13:44:57 UTC

Like I said, you have to think outside of the human realm.

2019-12-09 13:45:14 UTC

An equally or more intelligent species can have nationalism that isn't neccessarily collectivist.

2019-12-09 13:45:16 UTC

Since them not consenting won't annul property rights

2019-12-09 13:45:21 UTC

Anyway, brb

2019-12-09 13:46:17 UTC

> That's why it's complex and can't be done with human societies

Why is there a discussion on it then?

2019-12-09 13:46:19 UTC

American Nationalism extrapolated from our civic values, for example, @ETBrooD, the true form of American patriotism.

2019-12-09 13:47:01 UTC

@Jeremy American Nationalism is based on Germanic Europeans with some other Europeans thrown in.

2019-12-09 13:47:12 UTC

@Goddess Tyche because of Ford's use of "inherent"

2019-12-09 13:47:47 UTC

It most certainly isn't, rather it's rooted in Natural Law philosophy, which branches down from Anglicism.

2019-12-09 13:48:02 UTC

It's inherent in humans to form societies, those societies will most often turn into nations, and those nations will most often be collectivist. Not because it's inherent in nationalism, but because it's human nature (as an aggregate).

2019-12-09 13:48:10 UTC

Do not tell me what my own family founded here, @Goddess Tyche.

2019-12-09 13:48:42 UTC

It's not a discussion on what, rather on who.

2019-12-09 13:50:29 UTC

I agree with the Natural Law via Anglicism thing. I contest that you can have that without the proper racial and cultural background.

2019-12-09 13:53:23 UTC

There are different types of nationalisms

2019-12-09 13:55:15 UTC

A family member of mine, Baldur von Schirach, onetime leader of the Hitler Youth and later Governor ("Gauleiter" or "Reichsstatthalter") of the Reichsgau Vienna, shared your view, @Goddess Tyche. However, we did eventually bring him to justice for his crimes.

2019-12-09 13:56:53 UTC

*Hitler breathed air, which is now a crime*

2019-12-09 13:57:07 UTC

Jeremy, kill yourself.

2019-12-09 13:57:27 UTC

No, wait, just go to Chicago and get 13-50ed

2019-12-09 13:57:33 UTC

@ETBrooD That just means you need to get state-approved air tanks

2019-12-09 13:57:58 UTC

The state approved air has the molecules that Hitler liked to breathe the most separated and removed

2019-12-09 13:58:37 UTC

Know you live in the shadows of an ancestor of mine and his ideology, @Goddess Tyche.

2019-12-09 13:58:40 UTC

@Xaverius Due to your questionable online activities, the Department of Health has decided to revoke your daily dose of oxygen.
