I grew up in Melbourne and was subjected to regularly being insulted while walking down the street during daytime. People also like to vandalise public and private property all over Melbourne. At night you need to look behind you regularly. Also, in the city on a night out you need to avoid people who are drunk because they enjoy starting up a fight just for thrills. There are regular "glassings" to the face where a drunk smashes a glass bottle or glass on someone's face. There are also problems of someone being "king-hit" where someone just comes and punches a stranger in the head for no reason (sometimes resulting in death) and I even saw a man do this to a police officer at around 6pm in the city centre while coming how from work. These things are so common that the terms "king-hit" and "glassing" is used by the local media and are exclusive to Australia. Every weekend (look at the local nespapers online for yourself) the police will arrest groups of drunken louts in the city causing fights with strangers and damaging property. As another commenter below noted these groups of drunken Anglo-Saxon-Celtic white men are a big problem due to not being able to manage the alcohol and perhaps a culture of fighting seen as some kind of past time. Growing up there you think this is "normal" and are desensitised to it, but once I moved overseas I realised how abnormal, dangerous, violent and distressing these things are.
