Hmmmm
healthcare is a public service
or should be
I am not even certain how do both private and public healthcare work. Even if we set aside the moral arguments for or against public healthcare, there is also the question of efficiency, innovation, and cost in the long term. @ChillyWilly
there are many effective, and ineffective version of public healthcare
An example in favor of a privatized system is in the sector of laser eye surgery. A few decades ago, it was incredibly expensive. The price for laser eye surgery has decreased by magnitudes. What used to be at least $20k when under the government's thumb has dropped to less than 25% of that after years of innovation and privatization.
just socializing it willy nilly won't make people suddenly healthier
For example, should we sacrifice efficiency for the sake of lowering the cost and increasing access to the public?
it should follow a system that is like on Germany.
^
Germany's socialized healthcare is a good model
its probably the best example
@ChillyWilly An example against private is drugs
I dislike the British NHS but Iike the one used in Germany or Switzerland, minus the mandatory savings account and higher taxes.
Epi Pen for example, but most drugs as well
I’d rather have decent healthcare for everybody than the best healthcare known to man for like 2% of people
Should drugs be private or public?
But then there is the decreased innovation.
kraut and tea made a vidio on this topic
but its a pretty good video nonetheless
I kept hearing horrible stories about long lines in Canada and the UK.
@bolivarian_robert this
Exactly right @bolivarian_robert
@Louis XIV (aka 1685Violin) They are myths
My brother has been to the doctors in the UK, there was no wait time
the only downside to Canada's healthcare system is the downsides really
At all
it's a topic politicians avoid talking about
(wait what the fuck did I just say)
the wait-times
The downsides are the downsides
am I wrong though?
Well said
I meant the downside is the wait times
which can be up to months
Switzerland is a Universal Private Health Insurance nation. Japan is a Universal Public Insurance nation. Finland is a Universal Government funded nation. Germany is a Universal Public-Private Insurance nation. And the US. is a Non-Universal Insurance nation.
- just as a comparison
France is a decent example of federalized healthcare
although they spend a large portion of their budget on healthcare each year
