I just don't think evolution disproves god or a supernatural force necessarily

2019-02-22 06:11:59 UTC

I didn't say you couldn't believe in evolution

2019-02-22 06:12:14 UTC

I don't have any faith in a supernatural being really

2019-02-22 06:12:14 UTC

It's a really weird grammatical flex

2019-02-22 06:12:31 UTC

I only leave open the possibility and wonder why there is something rather than nothing

2019-02-22 06:12:37 UTC

Believing in evolution that occurred through a divine process means that those pieces were planned to have been there, and that the process occurred through divine planning/intervention

2019-02-22 06:17:44 UTC

Are divers omniscient under this theory?

2019-02-22 06:18:34 UTC

*divine

2019-02-22 06:19:34 UTC

They're often seen as contradictory positions

2019-02-22 06:20:18 UTC

One belief set is denied in favor of the other

2019-02-22 06:21:43 UTC

Evolutions as a creation process seems pointless and not efficient tho.

2019-02-22 06:21:57 UTC

yeah, which is what i'm leading into

2019-02-22 06:24:14 UTC

And also, leaving in those extra pieces like wisdom teeth doesn't really make sense and is directly a negative physical trait

2019-02-22 06:46:43 UTC

I’m gay

2019-02-22 07:35:56 UTC

my internet cut out

2019-02-22 10:12:01 UTC

You know, an atheist doesn’t say there is no God, just that there isn’t enough evidence to support that there is a God.

2019-02-22 10:13:26 UTC

I’m an atheist, and until I get some real good evidence that there is a God, I will remain an atheist.

2019-02-22 10:32:57 UTC

Sup

2019-02-22 10:33:19 UTC

@Cheepskipper I don't view humans as logical agents

2019-02-22 10:33:49 UTC

We're animals, and thus we are driven by animal instincts

2019-02-22 10:37:19 UTC

People believe all kinds of things without evidence. It is cute to think that we can have a completely consistent rational view of the universe that explains everything but that's silly. We're animals flailing about, fumbling with our convoluted thinking, desperately seeking survival

2019-02-22 11:46:41 UTC

@snakeeater I know. That’s maybe why I love science so much. The scientific ways are made so that we won’t fall in the trap of our flawed human brains illusions. Humans feel the need to know how things work. When we don’t know, we usally find a explanation that isn’t true. Example: Thor with lightning. But by using scientific methods, we have found out that this isn’t true. Like you said, we humans are just flawed animals as we have evolved from a common ancestor like all the other animals and plants.

2019-02-22 12:34:26 UTC

@Cheepskipper you're missing my point. Logic is overrated

2019-02-22 12:37:01 UTC

@snakeeater How is logic overrated? Can you explain in more detail what you are trying to say?

My own expansion on the topic would be that empirical deduction is limited to factual claims and does not infringe on the realm of motivation.... to the contrary... motivation often infringes on the empirical deduction resulting in biased perception of empirical claims.

2019-02-22 19:07:29 UTC

@Cheepskipper sure, why do you value logic?

2019-02-22 19:08:37 UTC

Saying the scientific method leads us to the truth is circular-why does the truth matter?

2019-02-22 19:10:00 UTC

Humans value the truth, but we also value emotions, religion, and all kinds of other things

2019-02-22 19:11:01 UTC

As they say you can't derive an is from an ought. Even if the truth exists, why should we care?

2019-02-22 19:23:42 UTC

From an ooga booga perspective, truth matters because it aids you in assessing opportunities and dangers easier.

2019-02-22 19:24:16 UTC

You can run from "fake" tigers, but it won't help you in surviving a real one.

2019-02-22 19:24:53 UTC

Tou can delude yourself into thinking honey is poisonous, but then you will have less viable food sources.

2019-02-22 19:25:42 UTC

Truth, without being a preening pseudointellectual about it, is essential to our prosperity as a species.

2019-02-22 19:30:04 UTC
