Spends more money on that than solving actual serious crime like pedophile rings

2019-10-20 22:18:13 UTC

Yes, those things are bad

2019-10-20 22:18:23 UTC

but they are but one aspect which Britain needs to rid itself from

2019-10-20 22:19:12 UTC

Yeah like that aspect of the House of Lords that completely undermines the democratic process, making it the least democratic country in the whole of EU

2019-10-20 22:19:26 UTC

It's just one cherry picked aspect though yep

2019-10-20 22:20:19 UTC

Did i say those were cherry picked examples?

2019-10-20 22:20:28 UTC

"but one"

2019-10-20 22:20:51 UTC

The House of Lords barely has any power so it doesn't really undermine Democracy at all

2019-10-20 22:20:58 UTC

Wrong

2019-10-20 22:21:42 UTC

It is

2019-10-20 22:21:51 UTC

Look at the Parliament Acts of 1911 and 1949 for instance

2019-10-20 22:22:59 UTC

Even comedians can disprove your position

@ETBrooD Wonder what would've happened had Dank taken all his money out of the account <:smugon:512048583806025739>

2019-10-20 22:23:43 UTC

The only real power in the house of Lords is that they can delay policy up to three times. The house of commons can over-rule them.

2019-10-20 22:24:23 UTC

@ETBrooD really funny guy Jay Forman, he's also a massive green party supporting socialist. Little bit of a bias

2019-10-20 22:24:35 UTC

Bias does not make him wrong

2019-10-20 22:25:03 UTC

What power does the HOL have that the HOC cannot overrule?

2019-10-20 22:25:55 UTC

I'm already in the process of rewatching the videos so maybe I can answer that in a few minutes

2019-10-20 22:28:29 UTC

That and they're getting depowered even further, hereditary peers have been further cut down and may soon be abolished altogether.

2019-10-20 22:28:58 UTC

Farage wants to abolish the Lords

2019-10-20 22:39:06 UTC

I'm reading the HoL can delay bills for up to 12 months, seems overbearing enough to me

2019-10-20 22:40:11 UTC

They're also unelected and many stick around for life

2019-10-20 22:40:22 UTC

Also completely unacceptable in a proper democracy

2019-10-20 22:40:56 UTC

yeah they should probably be yeeted

2019-10-20 22:41:13 UTC

what about congress? dont you have lifers there too?

2019-10-20 22:41:49 UTC

idk fortunately I'm not British, which is probably why I can give myself the luxury of criticizing their government so harshly without going insane from learning how it works

2019-10-20 22:42:50 UTC

there's a democrat that served 59 years uninterrupted in congress

2019-10-20 22:42:50 UTC

PS: not saying too many European countries are particularly democratic

2019-10-20 22:43:49 UTC

59 years sounds either respectable or complete nuts

2019-10-20 22:43:57 UTC

Not sure if I wanna figure out which of those it is

2019-10-20 22:53:23 UTC

Imagine coming in

2019-10-20 22:53:32 UTC

knowing only a tiny bit about politics

2019-10-20 22:53:33 UTC

and just saying

2019-10-20 22:53:45 UTC

"THE HUS OF LORDS IS UNDEMOKRATIK

2019-10-20 22:53:51 UTC

Well it is

2019-10-20 22:53:57 UTC

That part is indisputable

2019-10-20 22:53:57 UTC

Do you realise it's purpose?

2019-10-20 22:54:06 UTC

and it's efficiency?

2019-10-20 22:54:16 UTC

That's not the point
