Having a singular ruler at this point might achieve more than parliament at this point π€·

>implying the queen actually has any kind of power
And doesn't just follow what the PM says
in a way a monarch isn't so much a single ruler, as much as they are a single ruler who's head might get cut off if they fuck up too much.

that kind of pressure brings the best out in a leader
Yes yes
I expect teenagers to type this shit @TempleOfIron and @Eccles but fully grown lonely men? Thatβs just sad
Like when France starved because the king decided to support a revolution on another continent

you are now the king.. if you fuck up too much we execute everyone you're related to and everyone who agreed with you when you fucked up.
What do you expect from fully grown men?
that's how you run a nation
What's your preference?
Maturity?
Or when 20 million people died in the 30 year's war
No one in parliament is at risk of death unfortunutely, I personally think they should be legally accountable for their manifestos- promise something to get into office and fail to deliver, well off to jail with you, people would make promises a lot less flippantly tbh
you can't jail people for political choices that's illiberal
Course you can and we should
France starved for a lot of reasons, and it didn't actually get to proper starvation until *after* the revolution
that's why we need a monarchy
Ah yes I forgot the remainers are hollowed out and don't have a sense of humour
If you get in on a pack of lies you should be held accountable
Except bread shortages were already present in all manor cities
your are asymmetrical
how are you going to prove that? a lot of people are simply idiots and don't know that they're arguing on the behalf of lies
There was food rationing, not starvation
and not *everywhere*
manifestos should be legally binding though
This was also more the fault of the aristocracy then of the Monarchy
Well then maybe they should 1) start costing their manifestos (if you promise tax cutes how are you going to fund and cover that), 2) stop adding all manner of crap if they are going to flip (corbyrn, ardent leaver till it was happening then swapped remain) thats two right there
as the King tried to tax the aristocrats more to alleviate the pressure, but they refused
to forego their tax privileges
personally i just want PureEvilPie to ditch the Lib Dems since he doesn't seem to support -any- of their policies beyond the eu
Storin what of people who genuinely change their minds?
You should still have to justify it, it is ok to change your mind, but you must be able to present why you did so- better known as evidence based practice
Simply doing it because its the opposite of what the govt is doing is spineless
The crown regulated prices of wheat you see - held a monopoly of sorts
