It doesn't seem to matter to some people. Response I got was "but their policies are Socialist, what's wrong with socialism"

2019-11-27 11:25:46 UTC

I'd recommend history. History shows exactly whats wrong.

2019-11-27 11:26:20 UTC

Socialism ends in misery.

2019-11-27 11:26:55 UTC

I may have mentioned some recent examples. When he saw the "overturning capitalism is my job" quote, he looked like he might cry.

2019-11-27 11:27:25 UTC

Its a repeated experiment that fails every time. They're waiting for the miracle where a society can manage it. If they can name a country that is truly socialist that isn't a shithole, I'd be all ears.

2019-11-27 11:27:30 UTC

I'd be Andrew Marr about it.

2019-11-27 11:27:30 UTC

This is a chap who used to work for the beeb though.

2019-11-27 11:28:58 UTC

Socialism becomes popular when society feels economically threatened

2019-11-27 11:29:14 UTC

Thus the rise of Labour socialism is a result of the failure of New Labour and the Tories/Lib Dems

2019-11-27 11:29:36 UTC

Not really. Socialism isn't popular in the UK. This new manifesto isn't popular.

2019-11-27 11:29:46 UTC

And as yet, nobody in any of the political establishment is willing to acknowledge the FAILURES of neoliberalism, multiculturalism, and mass immigration

2019-11-27 11:29:52 UTC

The polls show that the Tories are soaring in popularity because they're aren't radical.

2019-11-27 11:29:55 UTC

It was, SLen, their 2017 manifesto was very popular

2019-11-27 11:30:15 UTC

This latest one isn't popular because of brexit and the rabid ideological stuff they've bolted on

2019-11-27 11:30:22 UTC
2019-11-27 11:30:24 UTC

I think that's broadly true, but someone yesterday told me that was pushing them towards the libdems

2019-11-27 11:30:33 UTC

People want to be economically secure, and for the services they rely on to fucking work

2019-11-27 11:30:36 UTC

theyre not getting away from that stink

2019-11-27 11:30:50 UTC

Amandeep is based

2019-11-27 11:30:58 UTC

But if anyone stopped and thought about it, they'd realise thats exactly the opposite of socialism.

2019-11-27 11:31:17 UTC

It's far more complicated than that, Slen

2019-11-27 11:31:37 UTC

Much as we'd like there to be "free markets" and "socialism" and nothing inbetween, the reality is very different

2019-11-27 11:32:15 UTC

Social programs, which we have, rely on a strong economy to provide adequate taxes. Socialism in full stifles economic growth and so social programs suffer unless taxes are increased. And the problem compounds.

2019-11-27 11:32:33 UTC

Yet there are things that are currently privatised that have no business being, such as the railways

2019-11-27 11:32:35 UTC

Yup. I acknowledged that the UK has Socialist policies and institutions. I just don't think we are or should be a Socialist country.

2019-11-27 11:32:38 UTC

Water

2019-11-27 11:32:50 UTC

The electric distribution network

2019-11-27 11:33:13 UTC

I don't think we do have socialist policies

2019-11-27 11:33:16 UTC

Wanna see my bacon torpedo?

2019-11-27 11:33:22 UTC

No, Mikey, keep your pants on

2019-11-27 11:33:25 UTC

We have social programs, not socialist.

2019-11-27 11:33:46 UTC

Fair enough, I'm probably misusing the definition.

2019-11-27 11:33:54 UTC

There's a difference between the safety net idea that we have in place and the 'the government determines your place in society' kind of approach.

2019-11-27 11:34:05 UTC

The safety net is a bit shit

2019-11-27 11:34:23 UTC

Its not meant to be great. Its meant to encourage you to get back on your feet again.

2019-11-27 11:34:34 UTC

Some people aren't capable of being on their feet, Slen

2019-11-27 11:34:42 UTC

Some people, for sure.

2019-11-27 11:34:46 UTC

Elderly, infirm, disabled, people with mental issues

2019-11-27 11:35:02 UTC

But there's a remarkable amount of people who treat it like its suppose to be equal to a real income.

2019-11-27 11:35:14 UTC

When for them, it's not designed that way.

2019-11-27 11:35:51 UTC

People who are unable to work, definitely should have some kind of assistance, but I also think it should be kept in mind that family should also be involved if possible in providing that assistance.
