Basically it's an "oh, you used that argument because it's emotionally manipulative."
you can separate feelings from an argument on certain topics
Debate doesn't allow you to disregard an argument without a paragraph of rhetorical strategies on why it's a shit argument. "That's a shitlib's argument" is much simpler.
Lmao
The majority of people in comment sections and chat rooms simply cannot separate their feelings from their arguments.
I'd much rather be in an echo chamber than spend my free time reading "Trump/Russia collusion!" for the literal thousandth time.
ok and if you disagree with that for whatever reason
Once you know the underlying motivations and them and their ilk's arguments, I don't see why there is a point in constantly engaging with them.
why not challenge it?
Their arguments are all the same, extremely predictable
I gain nothing new listening to them
i could say the same for conservatives
I don't learn anything
Well I'm not a conservative
never said you were
Sure
lol
anyways tho, i just think echo chambers and circle jerks are retarded and dont offer anything productive
I get what you mean, but conservatives and mainstream leftists hardly ever have original arguments that explain in depth why something should be as they promote
you can learn anything talking to people who agree with you all the time
They provide a platform for organisation and collectivisation of an ingroup, that's useful.
Also that's wrong
I've learnt a lot from people who I generally agree with most of the time
i mean the usefulness is debatable
obv nothing wrong with having a community
but to never branch out and talk to different people?
not really for me i gues
s
What is more productive, being in a group of like-minded people steelmanning your own arguments by collecting data and giving each other advice, or exposing yourself to the same beta male arguments over and over with nothing new?
Once you've already explored all the different political points of view and worked out what would happen if they were taken to completion, there is no point in spending your time debating those idiots.
Exactly pgrabber lol
the thing is you can steelman your own arguments by testing them against people who disagree with you
this goes back to what i said earlier
If you only focus on avoiding an echo chamber, you'll hear "The freer the market, the freer the people!" 100x when discussing economics **or** you can just study economics with like-minded friends.
if you talk to someone who disagrees with you
and they prove a pov you have to be weak or invalid and u cant back it up
you can then look at what they attacked and strengthen that part of your argument
The people who disagree with me are generally extremely unintelligent and I gain nothing from them. I gain nothing from reading the same argument over and over.
People who I agree with most of the time don't make retarded arguments, that's why I continue to talk to them
Yeah but I've already done that for months Black
