Look at that; the people who fantasize executing Trump for Treason, driving a car into one of Trump's Properties, and holding his severed head are clutching their pearls

Haha

2019-10-14 21:57:10 UTC

@Might Guy

The whole "nation building" schtick was only part of the Neocon program. Domestically they sought to sell the American people a lot of socialist pogroms by painting them as "right wing" (remember 'kinder gentler'?). In that latter sense I suppose there are Neocons here.

I don't fit either.

2019-10-14 21:58:27 UTC

I don’t know what kinder gentler was

2019-10-14 21:58:37 UTC

Could you enlighten me on it

2019-10-14 22:00:48 UTC

But yes upon further reflection the neocons included a lot of illiberal religious people

2019-10-14 22:01:30 UTC

And libertarians

2019-10-14 22:03:05 UTC

Bush's domestic policy. 'Kinder gentler' another slogan was 'compassionate conservativism'. But basically trying to re-brand socialism in right wing terms. So *domestically* Tucker Carlson is straight Neocon.

2019-10-14 22:03:46 UTC

So is that welfare/food stamps

2019-10-14 22:04:19 UTC

Oh God no the libertarians universally opposed Neocons. Probably the best critique of that political philosophy was *Leviathan on the Right* from CATO.

2019-10-14 22:04:56 UTC

Sorry

2019-10-14 22:05:18 UTC

He’s a pretty solid dissident right channel

2019-10-14 22:10:01 UTC

He’s more of a Christian type

2019-10-14 22:57:28 UTC

@Might Guy

Oh OK the dissident right seems to get their history from movies half the time. Neocon is a lot more recent than that. It was if anything from the disaffected left (several of their theorists were Trotskyites at university). Of course from the libertarian standpoint there is little to love of the 50s as most of the New Deal socialism was still intact. Until the 60s when Kennedy *a Democrat* reduced the taxes and even proposed a silver currency before he was assassinated.

For the GOP there was no real libertarian influence until Goldwater. Bear in mind Reagan (who used to be a Democrat) became a Goldwater Republican and supported his failed primary bid.

2019-10-14 22:57:48 UTC

You do not get the Neocons until like the 90s...

2019-10-14 22:59:32 UTC

Upon reflection I don't think they meant neocons

2019-10-14 22:59:52 UTC

But the post war right wing coalition
