India ink.
Logos is Rising 24x18" oil on canvas
Working on this one tonight on my youtube stream while discussing why women should have never been given the right to vote.
Dabbling with opaque watercolor.
Thank you
Gouache 11x9. Just finished.
Thank you!! Iโm glad you like it.
Hereโs where Iโm at with my current piece. Iโve got to fix the vegetation by the waterfall, finish the foreground, and a few other tweaks and Iโm gonna call it finished and move on. Iโve got 30 hours on this and donโt want to dwell on the flaws. Time to start another. Itโs all up on YouTube as I live streamed all of it if anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjMTBZQBxws3OhNur0Jqv5A
Thank you. I'm glad you like it. Gonna try to finish it today and pray the buyer is happy.
@Jun Ha. That hits home because for the first 45 years of my life, I said the same thing.
I started painting in April 2017 while I was in the hospital. They had pastels in the family room and I picked them up and started remembering Bob Ross. I became obsessed but was floundering around without any real guidance. 10 months ago I signed up as one of Stefan Baumann's coaching students. We have one 30 minute phone call per week. I'm going to make a video showing the homework from then till now. I was actually looking at the first painting he made me do which was a simple glass of water. and I can't believe how bad it is. Anyway, the first thing he stopped me from doing was youtube. No how to stuff. His channel is all about what to think about and what to work on. No demo. And it just clicked about 2 months ago. I highly recommend his channel for anyone who wants to improve. And @MS I'm not trying to be smug at all. Just humble as when you compare the work I did with the master I'm copying, the difference is very clear.
This is called "Sunset Near Arizona" by Thomas Moran.
@MS gotcha. I've spent 30 hours on this painting and have looked at his work longer than that. I'm amazed at how great the Hudson River painters were. Bierstade, Church, Cole, Moran. They captured the American landscape in the most beautiful way.
@juryrigging I hear ya. That wasn't my intention. Maybe a better word would be apprentice. @Jun I definitely notice my progress from complete beginner to where I am now. I
I've reached a level of competence with certain things however, my drawings are much to be desired.
haha. lots to learn which is why I hesitate at labeling myself an artist. However, journeyman does sound better than novice.
Started a new gouache tonight.
Part 2.
So close to being done. I think it's less than an hour's work. Then I'm going to start my entry for this local contest. You can only use black white and green. I've got a couple ideas and would love to hear yours.
Thank you.
Thatโs a good idea.
Hmmm. Thank you. Iโm gonna dwell on that for a while.
Update. Still not finished.
Pure joy. Finished. 35 hours. I love painting.
Working on this one again. I took a break from it for a couple months. 48x30โ oil on canvas.
Thanks!
Hi. I clipped a little part of my livestream last weekend where I was talking about my coach -Stefan Baumann - and showing the progress I've made over the last year. For those who are interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKD7Ngp_79Y
Bob Ross challenge stream. Lunch break.
Couldnโt finish it. Thank you @Edog and @Margrave PeaveGiver 'The Calm'
I wasn't planning on selling it so I haven't thought about it. It's big 4feet by 3 feet. It still needs a lot of work before it's finished, but I'm sure I'll be open for an offer when it's done. and than you both for the compliments. Gonna try to bring it home and finish tomorrow. I live streamed the whole thing, but youtube blocked my upload for copyright. It's on twitch though. like 7 hours of it. I'd like to make it a timelapse when its all complete.
This is getting very annoying.
Iโm sorry. I did not mean to post that here.
Thank you @Nat
Update on 48x36. Itโs turning into a tree study.
Thanks @Rusty It's not done. I'm gonna let it dry and then fix as much as I can. I'm giving it away to someone as a wedding gift.
haha or the signed urinal.
@Mu. Thanks. Iโm glad you like it. Itโs gonna dry for a week or so and then Iโll finish it. In the meantime.
Iโm Working on black white and green for national art league entry.
If you guys are interested, I live stream all my work on YouTube.
@Rusty painting? Iโm not sure what youโre asking. As far as the process. Itโs a lot of trial and error. Come chat with me next time I stream. Iโll go live tonight between 5 and 6 pm eastern time.
Haha. Thank you @Edog. Iโve got to finish it by tomorrow so it dries in time for the contest entry.
I did a little more work this morning and tonight, I'll hopefully finish it.
Is the waterfall a good idea?
Cool. Thanks for your input. Iโm actually getting a little optimistic about this one.
Update
Update
update on my contest entry which I was happy to find out that i have to bring it to the gallery on Oct 6 not this sunday.
๐
Thank you @Mikey
morning update
that's the goal. I changed this on e alot tonight. it was a rough night some mistakes. I have a lot to fix.
Update on my black white and green contest entry. I glazed it with thalo green and liquid. The green is starting to pop a bit.
I liked it better with the blue r water but the contest people told me it would be disqualified if I didnโt green it up.
Itโs all good. Iโm going to darken most of the water a bit and put highlights.
Yes. I used liquin. so it should be dry by tomorrow. Im going to mix thalo and alizarin really dark and glaze the dark areas. Also the area under the mountain is too greenish. Iโm going to darken it. Weโll see what happens.
@Edog what are you waiting for. The day of the rope approaches.
me neither.
Ok. This is all I could do this morning. Iโm not sure about the rocks in the waterfall. Thereโs a really bad glare because of the liquin. But Iโd like to lighten up the sky a bit. Giving me fits but it has to be done by Sunday so Iโm kinda out of time. Suggestions and input are welcome. I should be able to do one more glaze. And some highlights.
Cool. Thank you for the input. I appreciate it and yes. I just put those in there as placeholders. We shall see. I'll know on Sunday when I bring it to the contest people and see how they react to it. I'm also going to try to get some pictures of the other work that people are entering.
@SmileTitans yes. I see that. I had to redefine the planet in order to make it round again. I'm going to fix that today. Next time I do this, I will do the background first completely and then put the planet on top of it that way, the sky stays consistent. Not doing that from the beginning has been the cause of lots of wasted time. @juryrigging You may be right, but I havent looked at it and there is a lot of glare from the liquin I was using. I will see when I get back into the studio.
I got frustrated with the planet and put this one back on the easel. Itโs my attempt at a bierstadt copy on a big canvas. 48x30โ.
Finished. It's not where I want it to be but I'm out of time. Entry into black white and green local contest. 24x18"
We shall see. Thank you.
Thanks people. Iโll know next week. They liked it at the gallery. There were a few kids there and they were into it. That was the coolest part of it. Kids are amazed by space.
self portrait day 1 40"x30"
Thank you. Lots to do but I got a lot done today. I really didn't think I would get this far.
