when worlds collide
@DeusVolk I got this for my truck and swear by it. http://www.ravelco.com/
It's a cap that makes important connections for the vehicle to start and run. If the cap is not plugged in, the engine won't start. If the engine is running and the cap is removed, the engine shuts off. If I am parking my truck somewhere out of my sight, I pull the plug at the same time I pull the keys. After that, my 4x4 truck is going nowhere without a flatbed tow until I come back with the cap. It's like two-factor auth for your vehicle.
The CA branch had someone drive out to my house and do the work on the driveway in a few hours, for about $540 IIRC.
I figured nobody cares about car alarms, you hear them go off and don't investigate. The Club™ (both steering wheel and brake versions) is easily broken by publicly available tools. Tracking systems means your auto is already stolen at that point and you're playing catch up before it's disassembled in a chop shop. The newer electronic keys are easily hacked/copied by thieves who only have to get within a few feet of you...it's all so tiresome.
But Ravelco is only any good if you get in good habits to use it, and it's second nature to me now.
As for people breaking in to steal stuff, that's a different story. Some sort of alarm that personally alerts you on your phone would be best IMO.
Tfw an hour from home and your brakes start grinding...
And end up talking the jq with the mechanic haha.
Lol how does that happen. Not to derail mechanic talk but that’s interesting
The radio was on talk radio and they were talking about the bombing in Syria. The dude thought we had already pulled our troops out of there. And I said something along the lines of "not yet, Israel keeps us in war over there". He made a comment about how he couldn't understand how the Muslims could kill in the name of God and expect to go to heaven. And that opened a door for me to get all religious and talk the jq. It was a small shop out in the country.
Ah so easy!
Fellas, anyone here own a shop or plan on owning one?
I have an idea that could be very profitable.
Yeah, Tyler. A small dream of mine is to own a dealership with a small shop attached in the next decade or so @Tyler0317
Yeah there are some really unique mods out there.
Less attracted to American muscle personally. Big fan of Japanese and euro vehicles.
what's your idea?
Follow this guy from the above links.
Have a particular and repeatable custom vehicle you specialize in recreating
Yeah, I think it's more about tapping into a subculture or finding a niche honestly, with regards to what you're pointing out.
For instance, restoring pre emissions testing model cars into modern reliable trucks.
so 1996 and before
Indeed
Personally I think it would be really cool to source, restore, import and sell 25yo kei cars from Japan.
Also, importing holdens from AUS would be neat. there is afaik only once company who does in the US - in CO afaik
For instance, the hot rod forums are full of guys trying to get a particular engine into a particular car, with a particular transmission.
This is super inefficient to custom fab your own stuff with all of this trial and error.
But, If you had a shop, you could develop an 8 step process for creating a particularly desirable(and perhaps complex) recreation.
Big bucks to be made
I don't doubt it. Something that I can't undertake now - but I agree.
@Papa Pizzagate Jap cars, ewww,
8 cylinders and above are 'Murican 😉
Specialization is king.
speaking of
tell me this wouldn't sell here
I just inherited an El Camino
Yeah same idea
People geek out for these things
Holden (ford) Ute

Ive seen them in South African too
