@Deleted User granted "Academic Expert" role

2017-12-04 14:24:09 UTC

@Deleted User also I forgot to mention: the best thing you can do to help the academic channels is to post things you're interested in!

2017-12-04 17:10:26 UTC

Add channels for programming and language-learning

2017-12-04 18:57:36 UTC

2017-12-04 19:10:25 UTC

@Goose we have a <#352761432833523713> channel which would be a good place to start. I’m a Digital Storm guy myself.

Progress on the first one. Anyone got tips or tricks? Waiting for a hook knife to come in from Amazon so I can finish up the hollowing. For roughing I've been using a gouge with the kuksa wedged into a log, as I don't have a vice here yet

2017-12-05 12:21:08 UTC

@RevStench and a few other guys should be able to give you a few pointers

2017-12-05 12:35:59 UTC

@nils awesome. I'm working on some carving myself. I'm making a sign for a member, I don't carve often enough to give pointers though.

I did come into some oak 1x that's going to make this thing sweet as.

Everyone who has offered to help others in any academic area has received an AE (Academic Expert) role. So if you have a question (homework or otherwise) you can preface it with <@&387091385075105804> to get the attention of this group!

Chalk it up to tism or OCD, but I've become a big fan of to-do lists over the years for activities, studies, and exercise. I've been doing them monthly for a while now and have found that looking at them every morning encourages me to stick with the things I pursue. I want to share this month's as a template that some of you more diligent guys could use for your pursuits.

It's satisfying to cross stuff off the list every day.

2017-12-06 14:37:54 UTC

Nice, I need to start doing this. I've been getting pretty lazy lately

2017-12-06 14:38:44 UTC

My working hours got cut in half, so for the first week I didn't see any harm in just browsing the chans in all my free time

2017-12-06 15:05:30 UTC

should add a sales skill for all the IE sales bros

2017-12-06 16:00:53 UTC

Do we have any car experts here?

2017-12-06 16:02:36 UTC

2017-12-06 21:09:50 UTC

Ive been in the car buisness for years sales since 2014 finance since this year

2017-12-12 21:37:54 UTC

@this_that5553 might fit better in <#387059792432201729>

2017-12-12 21:38:14 UTC

or just <@&387091385075105804> can someone answer @this_that5553 ?

2017-12-12 21:38:16 UTC

Not sure if humanities or stem or what

2017-12-12 21:44:52 UTC

@sigruna14 Want to start a language learning channel here? Or a german learning channel?

2017-12-12 21:46:35 UTC

Memrise is great

2017-12-12 21:49:23 UTC

@this_that5553 a few of us were considering that. I’m going to be picking up Latin this semester and I know a few people were saying they’d like to as well.

2017-12-12 21:58:12 UTC

Language learning is a hobby of mine. I simply dabble though. Would love to focus on one language in particular with a group of us. Maybe french or german for us and we can practice with our euro bros haha
@Kingfish

2017-12-12 22:21:37 UTC

Yeah absolutely. I have to learn a language for my degree and I went with Latin. Maybe not the best choice but I couldn’t resist

2017-12-12 22:25:12 UTC

@this_that5553 bro I'm the same. I love language, but I've committed to one and I've been teaching myself Ukrainian for the last 3 years.

2017-12-12 22:59:00 UTC

Yeah, language learning is great. Helps with self-confidence and talking to people as well

2017-12-12 23:02:20 UTC

Same, but I dabble and can't commit

2017-12-12 23:02:30 UTC

Need to fit it into my routine

2017-12-12 23:04:06 UTC

We could start a group here

2017-12-12 23:04:14 UTC

We should ^

2017-12-12 23:09:53 UTC

We should set up a language exchange club for GI and IE. I'm sure most GI people know English really well, but perhaps they want practice. @Deleted User Did you notice any bad English over there?

2017-12-12 23:43:23 UTC

Most didn't, only higher ups and those living in Belgium

2017-12-12 23:43:58 UTC

English wasn't very commonly spoken and only somewhat understood

2017-12-12 23:44:14 UTC

The leaders speak fluently however
