there's more deaths from black on black violence from guns than school shootings, but we fixate on school shootings because it's mostly white people doing them
dude
i'm talking about mass shootings
I know, but Hogg is talking about all of gun violence
i don't care about this race stuff
that whole event was about gun violence generally in the US
not just school shootings
this is useless for the point i was trying to make
i think the problem is alienation and things along along those lines, then someone did a shooting and the media highlighted them for weeks, and kept doing it over and over. Now the same kinds of people are thinking "hey that looks like a good way to make a statement and get back at everyone who i hate". the media romanticized it, and it became common. And now it's considered a "gun problem"
I'm not 100% but I believe nearly all youth mass shooters in the last couple decades have either been on psyciatric medication or prescribed them
i wouldn't be surprised
i'm sure that has something to do with it
I told my best friend that I don't believe he should have the right to own his guns because he is on pills
he shouldn't tbh
@Deleted User
it probably does
and that's what i was saying before.
When they start to blame guns for it, they lose the opportunity to find out or at least even talk about what might be causing it
It’s because they, as in the politicians who support these kids, don’t actually care
They just see them as more votes.
I believe there are two separate issues facing youth populations that may in the end be related, but they are unique to class and race. I think it overwhelmingly has to do with a lack of father figure and/or sense of belonging
agreed
lack of family structure and community
in the most general sense I believe it is a masculinity issue
then we can look at mass shooters vs "street violence"
kids arent mature enough to navigate life on there own
and lack of good inner city education also plays a part.
and they end up in bad places mentally
without guidance
I unironically believe that rap music is a problem
as much as I enjoy it
when your value system is how intimidating you are and how much pussy that gets you
you're going to be motivated to be a shithead, I've seen it myself
the thug culture is a problem for sure, and the "lets get faded" thing too
that sort of media makes it seem okay to fuck your life up
even desirable to make you seem cool
for people who don't have a very active pre frontal cortex then ya it fucks your shit up
I know when I'm at the gym listening to rap and lifting weights I'm thinking about knocking people out
but it stays in the gym
there is also the crime aspect to it. it started in the 90s with rappers talking about how they want to get out of the streets, and it slowly became a status symbol of how tough you are. The state put black people on wellfare, and black people finished the job with their ignorant "culture"
they live in a different world with different rules
it's exactly the value system that is the problem
