Im not going to be able to get off without a specialized tool - the generic oil filter removers are too large. how long can I leave my car sitting without oil before its a problem?
Im not gonna be running it. I just want to make sure any oil in there wont dry and become a problem
@Koba As long as it isn't started I don't see how it would matter. But the tool you need is a filter claw. It fits on a ratchet. Nothing better than that.

I have an old one of those generic oil filter removal tools
just unplug the ratchet wrench extension, then push the oil filter off with a flat tip screwdriver thru this hole:
PADOW!
new one only needs to go on hand tight
