all except blogs

2021-01-20 05:29:51 UTC

unless you're like me tonight lol

2021-01-20 05:29:51 UTC

I think they're just referring to Storytelling

2021-01-20 05:30:04 UTC

I'mma start calling it Storytelling which is what it is basically

2021-01-20 05:31:24 UTC

basically

2021-01-20 05:31:40 UTC

I'm kind of forcing myself to write this tonight which is part of the problem

2021-01-20 05:31:53 UTC

It's also a situation I've never been in so that doesn't help

2021-01-20 05:31:59 UTC

makes sense

2021-01-20 05:41:01 UTC

does anyone else get nights like this? where you simply can't write well?

2021-01-20 05:45:20 UTC

yes

2021-01-20 05:57:12 UTC

dialogue has never been my strongsuit but like

2021-01-20 05:57:42 UTC

ugh
they say you get better at things when you do them enough but tonight is a perfect example of deadwood dialogue

2021-01-20 06:01:46 UTC

anyone have any tips on writing dialogue?

2021-01-20 06:01:56 UTC

because online I'm getting "read it out loud"

2021-01-20 06:02:14 UTC

or the ever popular "make it relate to the plot"

2021-01-20 06:13:17 UTC

Yea i do that alone but then have these moments where I come up with perfect and amazing dialogue

I'm having a time right now where the characters are fighting me. I know what I want them to do and where I want the story to go but they just don't want to cooperate. I've always said the characters have a mind of their own and at some point they write the story

2021-01-20 07:13:22 UTC

Lol

2021-01-20 07:14:02 UTC

I thought they were flirting XD

2021-01-20 12:55:20 UTC

Read it out loud/act it out is a good testing point. Read people are good dialogue-wise. In play writing, David Mamat is one of the top in the game. I also like Martin Mcdonagh.

Also consider the time period and personalities involved.

Like in the bit you shared, the repetition reads a bit awkward. Changing it to like

FLEET
Been two weeks now!

MARGARET
Three weeks -- unless you're getting fueled up somewhere I don't know about.

FLEET
What? Cheating? On you? for a pack of cigarettes? I'd never...

MARGARET
Really now?

FLEET
Damn straight.
