3) The hand written notes that were disclosed. I had forgotten about those but I do recall reading it back when it happened. They can be read in a way to make it look very bad to the prosecutors/FBI - I agree. BUT, they can also be read in a way that favors them as it appears the final "decision" was not to play any games and do it by the book.
So - this is what it sounds like on that issue - They seem to know that Flynn is about to lie to them regarding his Russian contacts (or that he has lied to them in the past and they are not trying to get that lie on the record). So like with any type investigation they make a plan, decide the goal and how best to reach that goal.
I would hope that getting to the Truth is always the goal. But in this situation there were National security implications. So if they just get him to admit the truth they might then lose out on the ability to charge him criminally or get him out of a position of power. Why is it important to get him out of that position ? - Well, we don't want our National Security Director primed to be compromised by Russians - so I do not have any trouble with them having this conversation about how to proceed giving the importance of the matter - And the fact they decide to not play games seals the deal for me. I think that part was fine.
