@Misanthropic Imperial Basically the main character of Clannad gets the ideal family, everything goes perfectly in high school and he ends up with a perfect wife about to give birth and he's on cloud 9, living the dream society ships us men and working hard. Then the wife (and eventually child) he loves so much fucking die and the anime spends a lot of time expounding on his loss of existential purpose.
MC is also a self-insert loner character, so the show purposely tries to appeal to guys like that, who are not as socialized.
