IE romper.

2018-12-09 05:29:30 UTC

I just thought "huh, that's kinda weird" and kept scrolling

2018-12-09 05:29:56 UTC

and then people were joking about IE teal hair dye lmao

2018-12-09 05:30:29 UTC

The IE fidget spinner, only one ever made.

2018-12-09 05:32:31 UTC

oh I remember the IE fidget spinner discussion

2018-12-09 05:32:39 UTC

@Nemets ah ok. It does seem pretty clear that race is genetic and does matter, but some people seem to think there’s a genetic component to *everything*

regardless, even if it was a social construct, it seems like an extremely persistent social construct that we can’t avoid

2018-12-09 05:32:40 UTC

I always thought we should actually produce those

2018-12-09 05:33:06 UTC

@Jacob There was one custom one made for Nathan.

2018-12-09 05:33:39 UTC

I mean we should have actually mass produced those kind of like the playing cards

2018-12-09 05:33:57 UTC

@Alex Kolchak - NY wait, *isn't* there a genetic component to everything?

2018-12-09 05:34:22 UTC

Race is biologically real, but precise barriers between races are partially cultural (eg Turks, Jews, and Lebanese not being white)

2018-12-09 05:35:03 UTC

There's a genetic component to almost everything, but it's not the only component

2018-12-09 05:35:16 UTC

@Jacob if we had done that, the IE space program would be a reality.

2018-12-09 05:35:44 UTC

@Nemets you mean southeast asians?

2018-12-09 05:35:45 UTC

@Nemets Well, I would say they are, depending on how specific you get. If you use 5 clusters, they're one race, but if you use 7, they're different.

2018-12-09 05:35:47 UTC

@Nemets If you reduce things down to three races, yes, but Europeans are still a genetically and culturally distinct sub population

2018-12-09 05:36:15 UTC

@Goldstein Riots Okay I just found Shawn's Youtube and he looks familiar. What was his Discord name?

2018-12-09 05:36:15 UTC

or Persians

2018-12-09 05:36:35 UTC

@Jacob can't recall.

2018-12-09 05:37:12 UTC

He was at the times square action flexing on hwnd.

2018-12-09 05:37:25 UTC

some Persians and Lebanese are white if you squint lol

and some are very nice and cultured and Westernized people

2018-12-09 05:39:04 UTC

that’s why “ethnicity” is a more useful term a lot of the time

2018-12-09 05:39:27 UTC

At the end of the day, white = European but a shift towards using European sounds so much better because it gets rid of "muh skin color" and allows for us to make it about heritage and identity more broadly

2018-12-09 05:40:04 UTC

@TMatthews Evropean, thank you.

2018-12-09 05:40:09 UTC

Idk how to phrase that really, but it's part of why I love the name IE

2018-12-09 05:40:33 UTC

I agree with you on that

2018-12-09 05:40:54 UTC

some people object though because apparently most normal Americans don't feel "European"

2018-12-09 05:42:10 UTC

If we chose an America themed name but still obviously didn't allow nonwhites, it would give off 1.0 vibes. This is different. We're building our own brand

2018-12-09 05:43:45 UTC

@Jacob I think as more people become aware of issues like immigration in Europe, they’ll identify or at least relate to Europeans a bit more

2018-12-09 05:43:49 UTC

Identity Super Saiyan

2018-12-09 05:44:02 UTC

(who are white)

2018-12-09 05:44:24 UTC

Normal Americans haven't heard of identitarianism and that's okay. Much better than something like white nationalism which brings up imagery of skinheads/KKK in their minds.

2018-12-09 05:46:02 UTC

@Nemets You are right. maybe a little Revolution / founding fathers factoids

2018-12-09 05:46:07 UTC

@Alex Kolchak - NY This might be hard for people like us to put in perspective since we both have family that is fairly recently from Europe. I honestly don't know how some guy whose entire family has been here since the 17th century would feel about this.

2018-12-09 05:46:13 UTC

If we introduce ourselves as identitarians, or even just as a European heritage group, it gives us the ability to define who we are to anyone curious about us. They don't have to think of themselves as European to think "they have heritage and activist groups for everyone else, so why not Europeans?"

2018-12-09 05:46:30 UTC

European national identities developed in part thanks to faster means of communication and printed books which gave people a sense of shared history/language/etc

2018-12-09 05:46:44 UTC

the same could happen with broader racial identity thanks to the internet
