Prevented from import (and thus free market) by our government (perhaps until recently)

2020-11-22 17:22:44 UTC

There are some good NPR podcasts on this subject

2020-11-22 17:22:48 UTC

Private is subsidized by public by requests.

2020-11-22 17:22:55 UTC

The entire thing is so fd up it takes hours to untangle

2020-11-22 17:23:33 UTC

Canadians may be happy with what they have; I don't want it.

2020-11-22 17:23:33 UTC

@GregInHouston2, you just advanced to level 5!

2020-11-22 17:23:53 UTC

I'm just explaining that it's a private/public option that coexists.

2020-11-22 17:24:01 UTC

As an example.

2020-11-22 17:24:23 UTC

Because you said that public just takes over everything and crushes private.

2020-11-22 17:25:16 UTC

Honestly, I don't buy it. But I have no time to look into how it does and does not work.

2020-11-22 17:25:25 UTC

It's funny... I don't think I have seen any other issue that has been so unifying in this group. Everyone agrees healthcare needs to be fixed. Somehow.

2020-11-22 17:26:09 UTC

Pros: Lesser costs to the public for general healthcare.
Cons: Longer wait times for diagnostics and procedures.

2020-11-22 17:26:38 UTC

It's not that fast now...

2020-11-22 17:26:49 UTC

It's very slow in a lot of universal systems.

2020-11-22 17:26:54 UTC

/very/ slow.

2020-11-22 17:27:10 UTC

Like a year to get an MRI kind of slow.

2020-11-22 17:27:23 UTC

I don't think healthcare can be fixed. It is a finite product with infinite need.

2020-11-22 17:27:37 UTC

@TaLoN132 there is indeed a lot of room for bipartisanship, like removing shitty laws that induce monopolies, in that sense you are right

2020-11-22 17:27:47 UTC

But that is not what the Dems are frustrated about

2020-11-22 17:28:02 UTC

There may be that technology helps with that. The DMV is getting better here in CA with being able to make appointments online.

2020-11-22 17:28:03 UTC

If you have money, you can get an MRI tomorrow.

2020-11-22 17:28:04 UTC

They in fact were proponents of most of these shitty laws to begin with

2020-11-22 17:28:33 UTC

(but most people simply don't know about the subject enough)

2020-11-22 17:29:04 UTC

I wish I could find those NPR podcasts, they are golden

2020-11-22 17:30:04 UTC

You also have to remember, Canada only has the funds for universal healthcare because they don't spend nearly as much on their military expenditures.

2020-11-22 17:30:07 UTC

Unlike America.

2020-11-22 17:30:18 UTC

You're going to have to give something up.

2020-11-22 17:30:51 UTC

And I doubt it'll be the military.

2020-11-22 17:33:16 UTC

Good laugh at irony

2020-11-22 17:34:39 UTC

A big part of the problem is that we have become so accustomed to the "Us Against Them" dichotomy that perpetuates and exacerbates the situation. People use the "they started it", "it's their fault not ours", "they are the bad guys not us" to avoid getting to the business of really solving problems. It serves somebody, just not everyday Americans.

2020-11-22 17:35:10 UTC

No argument there.

2020-11-22 17:35:18 UTC

That's a problem with the two-party system.

2020-11-22 17:37:15 UTC

But it's not exactly a new problem.

2020-11-22 17:37:27 UTC

It's been around for a very long time in America.

2020-11-22 17:37:43 UTC

Since it was founded, tbh

2020-11-22 17:37:48 UTC

That's why I try to focus on our similarities and less on the differences. The differences are important, but not as much as the similarities.

2020-11-22 17:38:40 UTC

I mean back then it was "Slave states" and "Free states"

2020-11-22 17:39:35 UTC

Yeah... if we can make it though that, we can make it through anything. The differences now pale in comparison.

Wisconsin recount is a clown show. 😫 https://twitter.com/ScottTapley68/status/1330542274518937601?s=20
