essentially that is a successful coup and something that should have been foreseen and prevented

2020-11-23 14:15:04 UTC

No one counted ballots without observers.

2020-11-23 14:15:47 UTC

kicked out of which places for how long ... one precinct worth of votes is not enough to change anything

2020-11-23 14:18:36 UTC

at least this hasn't been proven in court ... I think there was some case where they claimed their observers weren't there but I think court's response was that they had to show observers had tried to do their job and weren't allowed to do so ... the counting of votes must let observers in but they don't have to wait for the observers to show up

2020-11-23 14:20:07 UTC

there have been some court wins where the distance the observers had to stand away from the voter counters was changed from 25 feet to 6 feet

2020-11-23 14:21:05 UTC

allegedly from some of the most populous precincts in a coordinated manner, for which there would be strong evidence (one of Giuliani's 3 cases)

2020-11-23 14:21:10 UTC

enough to flip the election

2020-11-23 14:22:08 UTC

but as I said before, it's dubious that the courts will have what it takes to enforce that, regardless how strong the case

2020-11-23 14:22:39 UTC

and so far the cases have been very weak

2020-11-23 14:23:54 UTC

one case, one state is not going to change anything ... going to take multiple cases, multiple states

2020-11-23 14:24:37 UTC

"Most Republicans in Congress have been reluctant to suggest that President Trump concede the presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden. They argue that it's best to let Trump expend his legal options before they apply too much pressure.

That pressure has been building and it could be about to go bust this week, with key states certifying the vote totals and making their results official.

Michigan and Pennsylvania are set to do so Monday, and Nevada will on Tuesday. Arizona and Wisconsin have certification deadlines next week.

Biden is ahead by more than 155,000 votes in Michigan, by more than 81,000 in Pennsylvania and by more than 33,000 in Nevada." https://www.npr.org/2020/11/23/937802054/trump-is-running-out-of-time-as-key-states-set-to-certify-that-biden-won

2020-11-23 14:25:37 UTC

hammer may drop today ... after these states certify their results it will put up or shut up time for the Trump legal team

2020-11-23 14:26:38 UTC

Prepare to be underwhelmed.

2020-11-23 14:36:25 UTC

I guess I should say it's already been put up or shut up time and they haven't been putting up compelling evidence in court and they haven't been shutting up about wild allegations of massive coordinated fraud in public ... pretty sure that's all coming to an end early this week ... the rebuke of Powell was the start of the exit strategy

2020-11-23 14:37:43 UTC

Chris Christie's comments yesterday were also a sign that this is coming to an end very soon

2020-11-23 14:38:46 UTC

@nachik there were republican observers in the room , If any republican observers got kicked out it was most likely for reasons similar to this https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/wisconsin-officials-trump-observers-obstructing-recount-74339030

Either way that law suit was thrown out because the official observers were in the room

2020-11-23 14:42:29 UTC

and even those observers in Wisconsin are not getting kicked out

2020-11-23 14:43:39 UTC

Yeah

2020-11-23 14:48:34 UTC

so what ... the observers are close enough to see what's going on ... ideally for reducing Covid transmission each pair would be from the same household

2020-11-23 14:48:34 UTC

@meglide, you just advanced to level 6!

2020-11-23 14:48:41 UTC

I mean, dude on the left is not wearing his mask properly.

2020-11-23 14:48:50 UTC

So I don't feel too bad for them.

2020-11-23 14:49:27 UTC

This is what I'd call distancing based on unknown variables.

2020-11-23 14:50:34 UTC

The two poll workers are wearing proper PPE equipment, the folks on the left are far more relaxed in their choice of PPE, to the point where one of them has basically taken off their mask entirely.

2020-11-23 14:52:33 UTC

All the poll workers appear to be wearing better masks known to work better at stopping transmission and wearing them properly.

2020-11-23 14:52:33 UTC

"it's already been put up or shut up time and they haven't been putting up compelling evidence in court and they haven't been shutting up about wild allegations of massive coordinated fraud in public"

That. I love that. Lmao @meglide

2020-11-23 14:56:33 UTC

I'm truly worried about another 2016 happening again, this time from Republicans.

2020-11-23 14:56:48 UTC

It's not going to help the discourse in this country.

2020-11-23 14:56:54 UTC

It's going to do quite the opposite.

2020-11-23 15:00:11 UTC

probably just due to the poll workers being supplied masks and the observers having to supply their own ... it's just one photo

2020-11-23 15:00:32 UTC

And likely being instructed how to wear masks properly.

2020-11-23 15:00:45 UTC

Again, unknown variables vs. known variables.

2020-11-23 15:01:18 UTC

One is riskier than the other.

2020-11-23 15:03:50 UTC

I'm taking a more optimistic view on it until proven otherwise ... the blue wave didn't happen, the Dems actually lost seats in the House and it appears the Reps will keep control of the Senate ... I'm hopeful that will allow the country to just calm down because a more moderate tone and more moderate agenda will be the order of the day

2020-11-23 15:08:24 UTC

Except I think the law of arbitrary equivalence needs to be applied to that pic:

mask = communist = conspiracy

2020-11-23 15:09:35 UTC

Think about it.

2020-11-23 15:19:26 UTC

so if Trump loses, let's give up the Senate also? can't see how this helps your cause

2020-11-23 15:29:17 UTC

So if Trump loses, let's just have a one-party system of our opposition.
