@busillis Hey, could we avoid the 'crack' jokes please? I know it's not listed on the rules, but in general we tend to like not making fun of people for their addictions here. We generally remove comments like this. I know it might make me seem like a party pooper, but there are many people here that have lost loved ones to addictions, and many who have overcome them themselves.

@TaLoN132 Spengler and Toynbee seem to be of the opinion that these cycles are natural. Socrates presents them as unavoidable. Jung as avoidable in theory, but the level of insight needed to change even 1% of your self makes any significant change in the world practically impossible. One can argue that those moments in time where the "right people" make a difference because they are in the right place, is a selection artifact. 1000 other "right people" were in the same place, but nothing happened, as the cultural changes did not favor their music.

The rise and fall of the third reich was extremely specific to that nation, at that exact time after that exact world war, with those exact means of mass communication. that exact level of unemployment and starvation deaths and with those exact people in charge.
