That's because illegal immigration is a "Red Herring Issue". We could be done with 99% of illegal immigrations today - no wall required - if we just starting aggressively prosecuting businesses for employing undocumented workers. We put the blame on the immigrants, but the vast, vast majority just want to work - and are willing to do it under the table for way less than citizens are willing to work for. If we enforced the financial disincentive to hiring undocumented workers, companies would not hire them and they would go home. Truth is the corporations like undocumented workers and the people like cheaper stuff. So, we, instead, blame the "illegal immigrants" and pretend that the issue is we don't do a good enough job keeping "them" out.

I agree with that, when I first came to California I worked as a day laborer for a contactor that purposely sought out illegal immigrants so that when it came time to pay them, he would load them into a van and drop them off at an ICE facility. People can say what they like about immigration, but I'm a firm believer that if you do a day's honest work you're entitled to a day's honest pay.

I think his claim is that most immigrants not only come for employment opportunities but for public benefits that weren't guaranteed in their previous country like health care and public schooling and such.
