Northern white farmers and factory workers were big aspects of the Republican Party though it wasn’t just big capitalism

From what I understand it was the party for small business owners in the north as well

I think a lot were former whigs who were making up the backbone of the party to raise tariffs as well

It's really amazing that the founding philosophy of this country was for the government and other entities to stay out of your business and yet here we are today

Lincoln’s death kind of opened the door for the radicals to take control

Kentucky was spared only because we remained neutral.

Lincoln intended to be pretty lenient

But his death enabled the righteous to do whatever they wanted

The problem with such a figure like that is the entire thing rests on the shoulder of the person who basically created it. Once they’re gone it falls apart

Kentucky remained neutral only because we thought we could keep our slaves if we did so. But with that said, Jefferson Davis was from Kentucky and a large portion of the Confederate Generals as well. Not to mention that Kentucky seceded in 1864 but Lincoln moved in forces to keep them from taking complete control of Kentucky.

Yeah I think the best case scenario would have been Lincoln living to see through whatever he had planned

Lincoln has been often described as a tyrant for a reason, but I suppose that’s mainly due to his Caesarian style

He was in complete control of the nation and had the power necessary to positively bypass congress

I think like Caesar, tyrant is certainly a title you can accuse him of

But how accurate it is will change from who you ask

Many will argue however that his strong measures were needed to keep together the nation

But that’s neither here nor there

I personally subscribe to that belief.

I actually would agree. I believe the confederates absolutely had a more literalist view of what the founders intended

I think that they had a culture deeply rooted in a system that was beginning to trail behind and the rift created irreconcilable differences
