I visited a town in Virginia that is as it was at the time of George Washington. Guns were everywhere. Houses had them as decorations in most rooms. Cannons were all over the town. All privately owned. Fact is machine guns had been invented and a few had them. The second amendment actually states that militas should have the power of arms not the Government. Militias were totally private. Nowadays they have been made illegal for the most part.

The mayor's house most likely had a thousand guns. Gun after gun put together as decorations. Never seen so many in my life.
Rather sure it is illegal to own a real one that will function.
Perhaps some gun shops could with proper licenses.
I’m just speculating, but it strikes me that her ex-campaign staffer killing her as she was investigating a child trafficking ring is highly unlikely.
Unless she was involved in the ring.
