I don't understand why liberals ask that question as if it's an amazing "gotcha". I used to be in some political Facebook groups and they would ask it once in a while acting as if we're just gonna be lost for words.

For me it's not even something I have to think about. I have plenty of liberal friends and we get along just fine. I can't say I have any close non-white friends.

I'd say the distinction does matter. Someone being misled on political issues doesn't really impact my ability to have friendly relations with them. Someone being outright malicious is a different story.
