Its doesn't make them white (obviously)
But its possible for someone to agree with the idea without being white. (But its so rare its almost not worth accounting for)

I’ve read that there used to be a big divide between light-skinned American free black communities and ex-slave communities. At one time, they didn’t associate with each other. The two communities also had very different stats for education, criminality, etc.

Yeah the freeing of slaves and their movement north in the post bellum period led to segregation. The little amount of free blacks were mostly free to do what they wanted
