alot of interesting philisophy and futurism stuff
I think its all really well grounded in reality
but is very very interesting and forward thinking
@ThePangburn Have you heard of hedonistic imperative or david pearce
Oh I get the idea. But I don't understand where the imperative comes in?
He'd be great to have an event with
imperative as in the biological drive
its refercencing the hedonic treadmill
The imperative being to use genetics to reqire ourselves
to get off the treadmill
Yes but it' says: "We will eventually get to a hedonistic'less society because of tech advancements weather we like it or not?" Or that we need to maintain pain so as to keep on hedonism alive ?
not that we should maintain pain
That we will and should get to socety that has removed pain biologically
with technology
with the justification that at root level
Oh I understand now thanks
pain is the fundamental cognitive 'bad' everything else is based around
all darwinian life
which obviously WORKS
but doesnt need to have same suffering raw edge that pain gives us
we could just as easily have a HUD with a meter or gauge
like an airlane cockpit
to show and be aware of pain
rather than feeling the actual raw hot pain of touching a hot stove or something
you could get some non-pain indicator of it
Yea good analogy
@brucebruce Would you say it is a moral and/or social imperative for people to have children? Or are you arguing doing so optimizes life and wellbeing...or something like that?
Guys, cant the US build houses for 4 years and give them for free to people? And problem solved ?
Make it a National priority.. or something. Like the war on drugs
War on Homelessnesshood
Like when we built highways
Or atomic bomb
Yea
Yess
Or 100 other less important things
Spent 18yrs and trillion dollars in Afghanistan and accomplished 0
Global military presence
Or funded the new deal
Or the marshall plan
Or rebuilding japan
