How about any quotas based on geographic location, skin color, religions, language, ethnicity etc etc

2020-09-24 15:54:07 UTC

Or whether naturalized citizens can become the president ?

2020-09-24 15:54:38 UTC

ooh, the prsident one is a great question

2020-09-24 15:55:09 UTC

Yea - I often think about these things as separate issues

2020-09-24 15:55:24 UTC

I guess we do have separate types of citizenship.

2020-09-24 15:55:30 UTC

Never heard t discussed as a philosophy topic regarding ‘ special rights for some citizens’

2020-09-24 15:55:59 UTC

Yes- that’s why I was asking you to clarify - cuz I thought it does exist

2020-09-24 15:56:10 UTC

Kymlicka has done a lot of early work on it.

2020-09-24 15:56:22 UTC

He is for strong differentiated citizenship.

2020-09-24 15:57:04 UTC

So in the Middle East. Some countries have laws where a non-Muslim can not hold the highest office. In some they can’t even hold offices past a certain rank threshold

2020-09-24 15:57:07 UTC

The icky part is that if you want Native Americans to maintain their status, then you must also admit that the Southern boys with their confederate flag is also a protected culture.

2020-09-24 15:57:10 UTC

So it does exist all over the world

2020-09-24 15:57:59 UTC

And the religious police must turn a blind eye to the Saudis princes doing blow on hookers asses.

@Malachi it’s called ‘ prevention of vice and promotion of virtue police’

2020-09-24 15:58:26 UTC

😂

2020-09-24 15:58:54 UTC

Sounds like theocracy gone wrong, or very right depending on your level of brainwashing.

2020-09-24 15:58:55 UTC

It is virtuous for the prince to do so. Don’t you see?

2020-09-24 15:59:11 UTC

No I don't see.

2020-09-24 15:59:39 UTC

Yea, no one else does either 😂

2020-09-24 16:00:32 UTC

I have to walk my dog. If anyone comes up with something let me know.

2020-09-24 16:00:46 UTC

Ok. I’ll check out the link u sent.

2020-09-24 16:01:18 UTC

Would wanna know your opinions on this from a philosophical perspective including governance and jurisprudence

2020-09-24 16:01:35 UTC

I haven’t been introduced to this except for the examples I could think of on my own heh

2020-09-24 16:04:57 UTC

@Malachi I think in this particular case there is something to be said about whose land was ‘stolen’ (from some perspectives) and if it’s just some retribution.

2020-09-24 20:14:48 UTC

Sorry I missed this, busy morning.

2020-09-24 20:16:03 UTC

I don't believe in righting historical wrongs. As those people are not alive today to stand trial.

2020-09-25 00:07:14 UTC

I don’t believe in it either. I’m describing the reasoning (however flawed) behind it.

2020-09-25 00:07:53 UTC

We do retributive justice all the time

2020-09-27 04:03:27 UTC

what is the best way to live life?

2020-09-27 04:04:35 UTC

By striving to be the version of yourself that is worthy of being here

2020-09-27 04:06:21 UTC

@Ozymandias maximizing wellbeing

2020-09-27 04:06:32 UTC

Your own and the ones around you

2020-09-27 04:06:50 UTC

As if you were a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce. Just cool man. Like Arthur Fonzarelli.

2020-09-27 04:06:56 UTC

not giving up despite everything

2020-09-27 04:07:05 UTC

wait are only non-serious answers allowed?

2020-09-27 04:07:20 UTC

Just do what makes you happy as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone

2020-09-27 04:07:45 UTC

Like Jesus, the olive.

2020-09-27 04:07:52 UTC

agreed kcon

2020-09-27 04:07:57 UTC

realize the meaninglessness of our situation and constantly search for it.

2020-09-27 04:08:10 UTC

also, striving for happiness is not a valid way of living your life.
