Its intentional for the most part @Deleted User
They just do the bare min to get their vote
what define a 'democracy'
The shameless and toxic pandering to minorities isn't a good thing. Wouldn't not happen if an authoritarian government wanted to secure a demographic vote. FDR made a deal with Southern Democrats not to include blacks in many New Deal programs to get their support.
because in the US we only democratically elect people
FDR definitely led an authoritarian government.
America is a democracy. A republic is still a democracy.
America is not a democracy lmao
that's not what I asked
Its a constitutional republic
Well we're talking about America, so I'm pointing to American democracy.
We democratically elect people
<:HyperLmao:459545665517780993> >america is a democracy
that's it
And yes America absolutely is a democracy. Why is it not a democracy? Representative democracy makes a republic a republic. Did you ever stop for more than two seconds and wonder why it's called representative "democracy"?
Or did that just slip your mind?
what define a 'democracy'
''a democracy''
Rule by the people, etymologically speaking.
Demos, kratos.
Legally speaking America is a democracy even if it's been so heavily bureaucratized since FDR that the people increasingly have less power over the affairs of the state.
It doesn't suddenly stop being a democracy as soon as government isn't as small and direct as you want it to be. Sorry, that's not how the world works.
We still elect people, federally and locally.
Those people decide domestic and foreign policy.
''It doesn't suddenly stop being a democracy as soon as government isn't as small and direct as you want it to be. Sorry, that's not how the world works.'' I never implied that
When they don't do what we want as voters we don't reelect them.
Sounds like democracy to me.
Anon seems to have run off after claiming that America isn't a democracy for the 2946th time and being told why he's wrong by me on this specific point for the 2946th time.
the only say we have in their decisions is getting them elected. we can't guarantee that they'll do what the majority wants
Yes, but that doesn't make it not a democracy. A republic is a democracy.
we have a say in who gets in power, depending on the position, that's about it
it's not rule by the people
Don't want to rely on words too much here but America is legally a representative *democracy.* We call a system of government where people elect representatives a democracy because they vote, thereby influencing the public affairs (res public, public affair).
You're disagreeing with established definitions for God knows why.
But you're plain and simply wrong.
I think democracy is too broad
there's direct and rep, and god knows how many other forms
It's meant to be broad, that's why democracy can be representative or direct. Direct democracy is not the only type of democracy.
why are you so hostile <:HyperLmao:459545665517780993>
I didn't call you stupid, I just explained why you were wrong and then told you you were wrong.
