The most successful groups have rules for how group members should interact with each other and when a member breaks the rules the group condemns the rule breaker because he is undermining group cohesion

If your goal is survival, then to keep your head down and bide your time until the threat has passed is the way to survive, unless you think that you would be sought out and exterminated for doing so.
